Radio GAMeC—the project emerged in 2020 during the healthcare emergency via the social media channels of the Gallery of Modern and Contemporary Art of Bergamo, and recognized by UNESCO as one of the best museum initiatives in the world to emerge during the first lockdown — returns with a new season. Dedicated to the institution’s anniversary, Radio GAMeC 30 is conceived as an observatory over the changes that have shaped the last 30 years of history.
Starting from the point of view of personalities from the world of art and culture who have lived through the experiences of the last three decades first hand, with the aim of recounting aspects of a complex and changing reality, Radio GAMeC 30 proposes a journey in stages, guided by director Lorenzo Giusti and curator Ilaria Gianni. From the birth of the World Wide Web in 1991 to the fall of Kabul in 2021, passing through the cloning of Dolly the sheep in 1996 and Black Lives Matter in 2013, Radio GAMeC 30 presents a schedule of 30 appointments, one for each year, in a narrative marked by events that, for historical-political, technical-scientific, social or environmental reasons, have represented the opening of a new path or a fracture in a common path.

In recognition of Women's History Month, VOICES Meet the Author series presents "Grief and Memory," featuring two critically acclaimed female authors - Priscilla Gilman and Allison Gilbert. The authors will share lessons learned as it relates to death, loss, and grief, and highlight how to better understand our enduring and complicated relationships with loved ones. VOICES Founding Director Mary Fetchet will moderate the conversation and share her personal experience after losing her son, as well as observations of the long-term impact of grief on the 9/11 Community over the past 21 years.

Priscilla Gilman, author of the recently released The Critic's Daughter, joins last month's guest Allison Gilbert, author of Listen, World!, and VOICES Founding Director, Mary Fetchet for an insightful, soul-searching conversation.

Chris reflects on his 9/11 story - 20 Years Later

Soon, we will mark 22 years since the September 11 horrific attack on America. My guest on this episode is leading an event honoring 9/11 heroes and the soldiers that have died fighting in wars since then. And this veteran is also rucking his way to better mental health.

After I give a quick recap of my new (fastest) 5K PR at a midnight race, then what Tim Tebow told myself and a crowd in GA, (6:00) we get to know SSG (Ret) Lee Rollins! He talks about where he was - as a young soldier - on September 11, 2001...eventually deploying to Iraq, Afghanistan which "changes your soul." 

(13:17) We discuss how he and you can help veterans and Gold Star families (who've lost a loved one in military service) through organizations like the Travis Manion Foundation. That's the beneficiary of a 9/11 heroes 5K run happening all around the nation on Saturday morning September 9, including in Columbus GA (Chattahoochee Valley). (22:38) Travis Manion, the marine LT killed in Iraq, was known for saying "If not me, then who." Lee talks about being proactive, inspiring each other, doing acts of kindness - like Travis.

A big passion for this pod guest is (25:12) rucking, good cardio and mental challenge for this veteran who had an injury that forced him into medical retirement. Walking or hiking with that ruck sack is like therapy for him and other vets, but you got to do it the correct way to avoid inury! He's a part or regular group rucks in East Alabama and West Georgia.

(37:40) Lee also is focused, on and off his job, to help veterans transition from military to civilian life, especially with getting jobs and their mental health. He talks about what he does through Work for Warriors Georgia, with some inspiring stories! (45:58) And is this retured US Army sniper school instructor...still a good shot? Shooting/hunting, fishing, rucking, other sports and hobbies are also a great way to bond, he says, through tough times of grief and PTSD. (54:10) I close out the episode with a prayer for our military and more.

September 11, 2023 is the fiftieth anniversary of CIA backed military coup in Chile. In 1973, the elected Socialist government of Salvador Allende was replaced by the brutal dictatorship of General Augusto Pinochet. During his seventeen year military rule, more than forty thousand people were physically and psychologically tortured.

Dr. Ken Calain also talks about the cause that event with 2,200 steps benefits...how he helps people as a chiropractor...having that medical role for 3 local semi or pro teams in town...being a father of 8 kids and more.

(13:08) Dr. Calain is also involved with F3, a national mens group focused on fitness, fellowship and faith. How and when can you get involved locally?


(18:21) We dig deeper into what people can expect when they go see a chiropractor like him. And he deals less with pain...more with pressure on your nerves, degeneration, inflexibility from lack of physical activity. His job: help your body function at 100% or closer to that. You'll hear his story about a grandmother dropping her cane and inspiring him to help others the same way. And doing adjustments, alignments in not like what you see in some of those viral videos.


(25:40) It's also interesting how he takes care of athletes in different ways as team chiropractor: hockey players for the Columbus Riverdragons, members of the Columbus Lions arena football team, and baseball players on the new Braves AA affiliate Columbus Clingstones. (31:44) He also stays busy as a father of 8 kids, combined with his wife - as they pass on a legacy of fitness and faith. And finally, he has some advice when it comes to serving in your community!
