It's my understanding that the author Frank Herbert characterised his Bene Gesserit order of priestesses for his science fiction book Dune on a known Tibetan sisterhood who gained immortality from certain Taoist practises, including sacred Tantric sex.  Certainly, he took many ideas from their texts, such as the prana bindu practises and the Sabda. 

This Sisterhood's teachings are only remembered today in the secret order of the White Tigresses in Taiwan. Gesserit is an anagram of Tigress. Herbert's characterisation of them as sadistic sorceresses was, imho, just a product of typical Jungian fears  some men have about female power.
