Historical background
Cole Porter penned “Anything Goes” in 1934 for the Broadway musical of the same name, capturing the roaring-’30s spirit of gleeful rule-breaking on the high seas. The show’s title‐song became an instant standard, thanks to Porter’s urbane word-play and the tune’s athletic harmonic turns. From Ethel Merman’s brassy original to Tony Bennett’s suave swing and the fiery 1956 Ella Fitzgerald reading, the number has remained a jazz favorite for its whooshing rhythm-changes energy and sly wink at social conventions.

About this trio-plus-synth arrangement
Instrumentation – nylon-string guitar (lead & chord-melody), upright bass, brush-kit drums, and a Nord synth pad that adds a glassy 1980s fusion sheen behind the acoustic trio. A second guitar track in the score provides comp support.
Tempo & feel – a brisk ≈ 129 BPM four-to-the-bar swing keeps Porter’s quick-fire melody agile while giving the groove a tight big-band snap. 

Key & harmony – arranged in A-major (three sharps). The head kicks off with A Maj7 → F♯ 7 → B m7 → E 7 ♯11—Porter’s classic chromatic pivot—before zipping through Rhythm-changes-style II–V cycles and a mischievous diminished passing chord every fourth bar. 

Texture – the guitar states the melody in tight three-note clusters while the Nord pad sustains whole-note chords, evoking a horn section cushion. Bass walks buoyant quarters; brushes dance on snare and ride. A single-chorus guitar solo darts through chromatic enclosures, followed by an eight-bar synth-pad feature that nods to vintage CTI electric jazz. Everyone reunites for a shout-tag ending on a sparkling A 6/9—pure Broadway brass filtered through nylon strings and synth shimmer.
