In January I heard that Jeff Beck had just died. That was so sad. He was a friend, a mentor, and an inspiration. I couldn’t take it in. I still can’t. The news reported that 'after suddenly contracting bacterial meningitis, he peacefully passed away'. It made no sense. I needed to hear him play, and dug out a cassette.   

During 1980 the band had recorded an album (There And Back), made two tours of the States, one tour of Japan, and in 1981 a UK tour was to be our final appearance. It had been a life-enhancing experience. he very last gig was to be at Hammersmith Odeon (now Apollo). It was an emotional night, and the band played beautifully. Jeff’s old mate Jimmy Page joined us onstage for the final encore. But just before this we had spontaneously decided to play a simple three chord blues. 

This was not rehearsed. I happened to have with me my Sony recording Walkman, which I just left on the stage between me and Simon. I hoped that Jeff and Tony would be audible from the monitors. So here is my own recording of the gig.

Today we are joined with actor/action movie badass Simon Phillips who is currently featured alongside Arnold Schwarzenegger in the Netflix series premiere of FUBAR and Season 3 of The Witcher next month! Simon's resume is absolutely stacked as he worked with the likes of Bruce Willis, Jean-Claude Van Damme, Mel Gibson, Robert Englund, and the ongoing joke is that it is easier to list the action/horror heroes you grew up watching that he hasn't worked with. Beyond being full of awesome candid stories Simon is also full of great advice for aspiring filmmakers and preaches the power of being authentically you. This is hands down one of my favorite chats I've ever had with an actor on this show.
