Back in our violence-free timeline... it's time to get bundled up, because it's preeeetty cold here! This song plays during the quieter, emptier areas of Coldfront, the Hotland replacement. While it's extremely chilly, Kris and Suzy just went on a detour to her house to get them a spare coat, so lucky for them, they don't have to freeze half to death!

Coldfront: the chilliest place beneath the Earth. Despite its frigid temperature, Coldfront is home to plenty of monsters. A lot of them tend to be of the "I can handle this weather perfectly fine" variety, such as Snowdrake, Ice Cap and Gyftrot, but there's plenty of others roaming around who need to stay bundled up, or at the very least stay inside.

It's at this point where Kris and Suzy part ways, leaving Kris to explore the hospital entirely on their own... which is where this song plays! This song plays during the majority of the main explorative portions of the hospital, and additionally serves as its battle theme... which means we've got yet another batch of enemies to reveal! 

For additional context, I should explain that some of these swaps relate to what the CORE swaps with... that being the True Lab! This swap takes the general "trying to save lives" idea and gives it a more... positive spin. I hope.

We've got a couple of bonus uploads today! Doctors and Patients has two separate variants that play in separate contexts from the main version. Hurray for dynamic music!

As for this variant...
Navigating through the hospital in the hopes of finding a way out leads Kris to explore wherever they can. Sometimes this leads them directly into patients' rooms. When Kris happens to stumble into one of these (though it can hardly be called stumbling when they're very clearly patients' rooms), the song fades into this variant. Some patients are actually rather happy to get visitors, even if it's a complete stranger.

Since there's not a good place to relay this information other than the relevant song I may as well state this much here: Suzy's reunion with her mother ALSO uses "Rejoined", potentially slowed and pitched down.

During their reunion, it's learned Suzy's mother used to work in the CORE, before it was shut down. One day, it had a big meltdown, a phenomenal increase in temperatures that caused the icy structures that surrounded it to start melting. She was forced to evacuate as fast as she could before it had long term consequences on her health, and despite everything requires frequent testing and has stayed in the hospital for quite some time since the event.

Upon hearing that Kris and Suzy intend to go to the CORE, Undyne insists on tagging along for their safety. While the CORE is much safer to enter nowadays, it still houses the unfortunate remnants of those who did not survive.

Throughout the CORE, research notes can be found scattered on the ground, as well, detailing the various steps in Dr. Gaster's research in regards to treating the monsters severely affected by the meltdown of the CORE. It's revealed that with the Determination that Dr. Gaster extracted from a human SOUL he had come into the possession of not too long ago, he intended to re-stabilize the monsters who had melted.

This seemed to work for a while, according to the reports, but one final report implies that something happened, and that the Doctor himself must have been affected by it, too, as it remained unfinished.

The fifth song in The Old Switcheroo's "Merciless Run". Plays during your encounter with Undyne. After your brief encounter with Alphys, you encounter Undyne very, very early on in Coldfront. At first you're led to believe that your attack on her was enough to deal mortal damage to her, to the point of being able to continue further into Coldfront. It takes mere moments for this illusion to be shattered, however. As soon as Undyne recovers, she charges at you and forces you into battle.

Fueled by pure spite and naturally-increased Willpower and her generally higher DEF stats--while she's significantly weaker than her Undying form in Undertale--she still puts up quite a hell of a fight against you.

===== NOTES =====
UNDERTALE: STORYSHIFT is a reimagining of Storyshift, set in a post-pacifist timeline of Undertale. Many years after Monsterkind had finally been set free, Alphys suggested to her friends that they all dress up as each other for Halloween, playing off the whole "dressing up as monsters" thing that humans were still prone to doing. A lot of them really seemed to like the idea. So much so, that a certain ghostly, theatrical entertainment robot would be inspired to write a stage play for him and his friends to perform in.

The cast isn't the only thing at the whims of Mettaton's retelling, as the distinct locations across which the story takes place all have received a makeover as well! Inspired partially by Hotland, the Ruins has been transformed into an ancient, underground desert temple. It's also home to what used to be a communal area for both humans and monsters, many years before the war.

The Temple

THE OLD SWITCHEROO is a take on Underswap made by Toadie (@dashingtoadie-the-sequel). It's a project that's been in the works for quite a while, striving to eventually have a sprite comic made for it.

Some tried to fight. Some tried to run away.
Some stayed for a long, long time.

But only one set everyone free.
