We’re moving on to the 44th episode of Podcats and this time around we got the pleasure of having Malmö-based DJ/producer Ezana with us in the ether for a short but smooth ride! 

Ezana (formerly known as Ezzo Fresh) is a music producer based in Malmö, originally hailing from Lund, Sweden. He’s the co-founder of the Malmö-based  producer-collective So&Such and the founder of On Cite - an initiative that expands the where and when of music production through event concepts like Beat Tech Fest and Pass-The-Aux.

Ezana started producing music in 1998 and had a brief encounter with recording to tape. It didin’t take long until he was fully immersed in a digital production environment and used sampling as his main method. His sound is strongly influenced by late 90s and 2000s Hip-hop, R&B, Dancehall and House, and he quickly developed an exploratory approach to music production and DJing.

The 44th episode of Podcats is a journey into pronounced drums, vocal chops, melodies and bass. We get a glimpse of some vocals, but mostly instrumentals. For Ezzo, it represents a chill random Tuesday morning, early spring, searching for inspiration. It ends with a demo of a home-made beat in courtesy of Ezana that blends a Brazilian rhythm with simple synthetic chords, percussion, Missy Elliot and Donkey Kong.
