I must be missing something... I've seen the advice given in this thread Re: Unassign nodes from a created template but as this is 5 years old and apparently applied to APM (not SAM) there is no "Manage Assigned Application Monitors" link any longer. I would figure that removing an application monitor from a node would be pretty intuitive but for the life of me I can't find where to do it. Please help this (possibly blind?) man see!


From where you referenced, deleting in this case is removing the assigned application as a whole from the designated node. Are you trying to no longer monitor an entire application or just one or two components of an application? If you are trying to remove the entire application from being monitored on the node, then this the correct manner in which to do so.


Right - I was trying to remove the application monitor from the node, not delete it (which to me at least implies that the template as well is being deleted.) I know how to disabled individual Component Monitors both within the template and within the assigned Application Monitor; my concern is that the message above seems to say that the Application Monitor and the template will be zapped.


After being applied to a node, a template becomes an application monitor, which is comprised of component monitors, also known as performance counters. Application monitors created from templates are used to report metrics based on your needs. This example provides steps for creating a template for monitoring WMI.


You will create a template with added monitors, configure the monitors, then apply the template to nodes for monitoring. We also provide information for creating an alert for the WMI application to send email notices based on monitored thresholds.


Well thank you, accept that isn't going to help me if SolarWinds doesn't have a template for what i need. There is no SAP template, there is no way for me to add a 3rd party single application easily. I have to go in to the Process monitor of the monitored device, and check running processes and add it from there, that seems to be the only way for me to do it. Especially since when i try it your way the machine doesn't even show in my list as it wants to default to servers only and this is running Windows XP it was for ADP and is specifically collecting our hand punch data and returning it to ADP for supervisors to verify and sign off on. I need to monitor it and verify that that application is always running. This is what i need to easily add. ADP, SAP, etc, Solarwinds doesn't account for those. I have too.


I have a SNMP service template with multiple nodes tied to it. A certain node does not need that template no more. No where can I find to remove that node from that template. If I try from the apm node to edit application monitor then delete. It removes the monitor but the template is staying with the node. Now my APM shows a template with an error due that node not being monitored (unknown state).


Here's a screen shot of Managing Assigned Applications in SAM. Group By Application Monitor and the results pane will show all servers that the application is assigned to. Check the servers you want the template removed from and delete.

I am trying to uninstall the engineers toolset and can't get it to remove itself. I have tried a "repair" via add/remove programs, a redownload of the toolkit and reinstall all to no avail. Screen shot of the uninstall problem is attached. Has anyone seen this or know how to clear it?

I need to install an Engineer's Toolset on a machine here, but I notice on the Customer Portal that the license is already in use. This is because one of our engineers had to rebuild his laptop recently, and used that license instead of his existing one when he installed the toolset.

This is where the DevSecOps philosophy comes in because if your engineers are actually thinking about security, because you are implementing this DevSecOps mentality it's not going to be seen as a blocker, it's just a part of the gates that they're going through when they're doing things. And it's not something that's, oh, this is slowing me down. So that's where-- I think this is something that we're starting to see a shift but you still hear the argument, well, security is going to slow down the business or whatever it may be. And I just-- I think it's the opposite. If you don't consider security early on you're going to slow down later. You're going to run into issues later that are going to cause way more delays time, et cetera and a lot of money as well.


And I think something also that I believe Chris Hughes mentioned as well, what we're talking about here automation and using the tools to do that it's a concept that we talk about in the course I teach but it's like living off the land. In compliance we should try to live off the land, we should really try to use the tools that our people are using, our administrators are using and then let them administer them. That makes things a lot easier, allows them to move faster. You go to your engineers or your operators and say, hey, I got this DevSecOps thing but here's seven new tools you've got to learn. They're going to run away from you. They're not going to be interested in doing that. But you can find out, what are the tools you currently use? OK, there's this one tool that we get it incorporates with all these tools, I'll give you a script, and all you have to do is run it, and we're good to go and I'll get all my compliance reports.
