Iman Person is a first-generation Jamaican American artist and cultural anthropologist whose research explores the intersections of Black and Indigenous technologies, and their connections to ritual, the land, language, and cosmic time.

Her work looks beyond traditional Western views of technology to offer a somatic examination of cultural diasporas within the Americas and the Caribbean. In her practice, she views the body as being deeply connected to the elements. Her recent works focus on air and ether as points of convergence for exploring collective histories, migration, and diasporic memory.

Body Scan

This set is a story I wrote for our muscles and sinew, to play with sensations of light & dark, embodying both movement & stillness. To shake off the winter, we must first embrace it, remind our bones of it's quiet weight, be with that for a while, and then break the freak OUT! 

That's what we did at Ambur Waves on the night this was recorded. Dancers reported moving stagnant energy through their entire bodiessss and OUT! 

I start us off with some deep, heavy, vocal-free bass tracks to activate the feet and hips, then bring the bright power of the first real day of sunshine in months! We POP OFF! And as always I lay us down gently at the end. I've fallen in love with this heartbeat closing track. I love the sense of co-regulating with the entire room after such a big shift of energyyyyy.
