It was December 1974, and musician Kevin Odegard just wanted to spend a quiet evening at home with his guitar and the latest episode of Kojak. But a phone call that night would change his life forever and lead to to him playing guitar on one of the greatest rock albums of the 1970s: Bob Dylan’s Blood on the Tracks. Dylan had delayed the album because he didn’t think the recordings he’d made in New York were going to get him back on the charts. So, he brought Odegard and a handful of other local musicians Minneapolis’s Sound 80 Studio to help Dylan re-record five songs over whirlwind two nights. 

Rick Shefchik and Paul Metsa have written the history of those sessions with Blood in the Tracks: The Minnesota Musicians behind Dylan’s Masterpiece. KFAI's Britt Aamodt spoke with Odegard, Shefchik, and Metsa about the legendary Minneapolis recordings.
