Hailstones and rain heard from inside a shipping container, Ballycurrin, Co. Galway, Ireland on 1st May 2020 – by Alan Meaney.

“After a few days of sunny weather, the clouds darkened in the morning and I anticipated rain.  I grabbed my recorder and made my way into the shipping container which acts as as a makeshift shed in our back garden.  The hailstones and heavy rain came in waves before lightening off to give way to birdsong.”

Værkbestilling til udendørsudstillingen In Situ i Reventlowparken på Lolland sommeren 2023. Værket boede i dette træ i 6 måneder.

Abracadabra - en tur i parken

Calling song of a Roesel's Bush-cricket along a stretch of sandy coastal grass in Co. Cork, Ireland. This is one of only two (as far as I am aware) known Irish sites for this wonderful species. It sounds to me like the buzz of electricity from a wet pylon.

Took a lot of self motivation to get me out today with weather still being unpredictable from recent storms. Between heavy showers though it gave just about enough time to get recordings of these fabulous exotic birds whose proclivity for ornamental rowan berries bring them to areas that you wouldn't otherwise go looking for birds. This was the first time I've seem them in a new housing development, which is exactly what you're hearing in the background, new houses being built! which rather than fight against, I included the background as much as possible.

In the second half of the nineteenth century, many of the most brilliant and ambitious minds in both Europe and America were bent upon solving the problem of capturing sound waves from the air and playing them back.  Most of their efforts, including the earliest "phonautograms" from more than a decade before Edison's invention of the phonograph, were either forgotten or lost to decay and degradation.  In the past fifteen years, however, scientists and engineers, including the First Sounds collective, have located the surviving remnants of early sound recordings and devised ways to optically scan them and reproduce the sounds that they captured, revealing much of the auditory world of the nineteenth century and the pathways by which the now-ubiquitous technology of audio recording came into being.

É apresentada a performance “Sonoridade Táctil”, no âmbito da instalação audiovisual “SOM e GESTO em síntese do existir”. Esta resulta de um projeto de criação e investigação artística que estabelece cruzamentos entre as artes visuais e a música, através de um diálogo entre as artistas Inês Moura (artista visual) e Rita Maria (cantora e compositora), em parceria com Lilian Walker (artista visual).

Como técnico de som envolvido, realizei o recording da performance bem como a sua pós produção cujo resultado é este que aqui apresento.

Recorded on a rainy night in Phoenix, AZ. Water was dripping of the eave of the house onto the air conditioning unit outside, making an interesting, melodic pinging sound.

DJ Katrine Ring plays classical music as a part of Cph Classical Lounge, former Yellow Lounge DK, released a classic mix cd in 2008 and the cd album A Hand For Holmboe in 2012. Playing live with primarily classical musicians and creates improvisations on the spot at events. 

I am also a DJ since 1992 pursuing an ecclectic mix of jazzfunk, latin, house, electronica, nujazz and breaks. Plus classical music. PT resident DJ at Balthazar and Toldboden, playing  in Denmark and abroad. Former residencies at Cph. Jazzhouse, the legendary jazzclub Montmartre and several hotel lounges and clubs.  Performs for squatters and royalty. 

Member of the dj collective Vibezone with focus on clubbing, events, compilations and music production. Collaboration with dj Tony M a.o. on compilations with Danish and Scandinavian jazz, soul, boogie, jazzfunk and latinrock.

On a mission to sound record all of Ireland's bird species: I am an ornithologist who loves to get out in and sound record nature. Happiest when as far away from anthropogenic noise as possible, although I do and will record and share it now and then, when I am in an interesting location.
