CMCS Future Pop

Obsession Sessions IV is a Disco-themed concept I've been putting together for ages. This was one of the few planned mixes I've ever played out at Sublime Sundays. I tried recording Obsession Sessions IV in one take a few times, and songs would randomly be corrupted; but others that weren't corrupted on previous takes would be corrupted on subsequent takes. I know--super important detail. Obsession Sessions IV--like the other mixes in the OS series--is 60 tracks and about 4.5 hours long. Not sure what it is about the number 60, but the puzzle pieces always fit for me. I dunno--this last detail is pretty important. . .

This is the tail end of OS IV when I decided to break it into pieces and splice/ merge them together in Logic Pro. The first and second ends were recorded at subsequent days at Gelato Vero for Rise Ritual and the last day of Sublime Saturdays. I'd been working on this theme for three years; and I finally nailed down the format in a way that makes sense to me.

It all fit under a lttle, bittersweet bow. The theme of OS is long, layered transitions and all of them (besides OS I) are mixed in complementary keys. This adds a special, harmonic element that makes me obsess on them when I complete them. They also need to be a certain level of quality for me not to cringe. This one, in particular, is the last of the series I'm going to complete for a while, if ever. All of them were concepts I'd been thinking about and compiling for a few years. You need to know that I was highly critical of everything until it just snapped together. The few parts that I picked up to be less-than-perfect are acceptable; especially since I only gave myself a few bars to ready a lot of the following transitions. I pushed myself.

Here's another Daft-Punk inspired track. Like "I've Been Thinking About You," this track consists of heavily modified funk and disco samples. The disco vibe of this track lead me to name it "Miami Vice" because why not? It's my home town afterall.

The name of the track is simply "Hey!" This is not a typo lol. Overall, this is my attempt at a "jazzy" sounding Deep House track. Various samples were used as well as old faithful Serum 2 by Xfer Records.

Alright, this one's another acid tech track with elements of hardstyle and psytrance mixed in. This track is very aggressive, quick, and to the point. I designed this one to serve as an "energizer" for playlists and setlists alike. The track consists of both heavily modified samples and instrumentation via Serum 2. 

Valhalla

A mix of groovy bass, driving drums, and tech house energy. “She Does the Dance” is all about rhythm and feeling the music.

As the son of a professional flamenco singer, Thomas has always been surrounded by music.  Exposure to flamenco influenced him because it has a dynamic range of emotions—from the "deep singing" style of cante hondo, to the more lively alegrias.  He has also worked in the corporate, independent, and online music industry for a number of years.  At one point he was a Content Manager for the Electronic Music genre at MP3.com, where he screened over 500 songs per day.  Exposure to a wide range of music explains the range of genres in his mixes—he uses whatever carries the mood.  From listening to Umm Kulthum's "Enta Omri" in his childhood, to New Wave and  Industrial as a teen, it became difficult for him to stick to one sound. Though vinyl was his original format of choice when he started in the 90s, the use of digital mixing has helped him better form soundscapes to expand your headspace.  Let him play with your moods for a spell.
