An earlier mix of this song, is the most listened to number of ours.  For whatever reason, the prior mix nd master sounded shrill and thin to me, so yesterday I laid down a whole new rhythm track and figured I'd share it with the world. Emily sings this one! Through the Dark and Lonely Nights was first written and demoed a few years back.  I haven't been particularly fond of any of the earlier arrangements, so I just rebuilt the recording from the drums up.  It's a straight up pop song that Emily sings somewhat breathlessly. In this version, I have kept Emily's vocals, and rebuilt the track from the drums up, adding new guitar and piano parts.  It's a nice ballad that sort of floats on the wind. Gold Card is a song first written and demoed some years back.  The lyrics report on an  interaction that I witnessed one evening in  a bar in Manhattan. 355: A Podcast Called Fred - Talking Who S07E03

For some reason, I found myself listening to 'Nebraska' again, the only Bruce Springsteen album that ever resonated with me.  It's probably the low-fi simplicity and the storytelling that drew me to it at some point. (I'm a child of 4-track recording so I appreciate its origins).  Anyway, after listening to 'State Trooper', it seemed obvious (?) that the song was Springsteen's attempt at doing Suicide, albeit with an acoustic guitar in lieu of electronics.  (He's often played 'Dream Baby Dream' live, so I know he's a fan, etc.)  Anyway, down a rabbit-hole I went and reconstructed the song, keeping only the vocals, and adding analogue synths and a Roland drum machine (and a few VSTs to fill out some parts).  So, here's 'State Trooper' (a bit sped up to match its tone) with a nod to the work of Alan Vega/Martin Rev, etc.  Blasphemy?  Perhaps.  Perhaps it's already done better by someone else.   We'll see how long it lasts here before the powers-that-be have it removed.  Give it a listen.  :)

Last Rites is a fun rock song that I wrote and demoed a few years back that suffered from my vocals.  We decided to recut the track and bring in Emily to belt out this song of romantic despair. It's as close to Springsteen-like as I would ever hope to travel.  The original is here if you'd like to compare versions. We hope you like it.
