Review
Since debuting in 2017, Stephen Richards has notched up releases on many of the nu-disco and re-edit scene's most checked imprints. Here he makes his bow on another, Fingerman's Hot Digits music. The three Richards originals on offer sound like hybrid productions, where his original beats and instrumentation are joined by samples from vintage disco and soul cuts. There's much to admire, from the mid-tempo, break-driven nu-disco colour of 'Winter Sunshine', where mazy synth sounds, dewy-eyed female vocal samples and laidback disco guitars catch the ear, to the Italian disco-meets-Italo-disco squelch of 'Gynoid' and the layered nu-disco warmth of 'Beat Don't Stop'. Chewy Rubs reworks 'Winter Sunshine', beefing it up and pitching it up to house-tempo while utilising his favourite bits of Richards' original mix.

Jisco Dazz - Slap That Bass (Stephen Richards Remix)

Get Down Edits founder Darren 'Dazz' Dalton dons his solo Jisco Dazz alias for a fine outing on his own imprint. He's in sample-rich original production mode on 'Slap That Bass', adding Wurtlitzer style organ licks, jaunty pianos, dreamy chords and eyes-closed female vocal samples to a weighty bassline and smooth deep house bass. The accompanying remix package is pleasingly solid too. Dalton's Get Down Edits project delivers a more low-slung, funk-fuelled house revision that makes more of the killer bassline and vocal samples, before Noden slaps down (sorry) a rolling dub disco-meets-deep house rework and Stephen Richards gives the track a sunnier and more soulful garage-house feel.

This episode of the Black Light Disco show is dedicated to the life, music and memory of our good friend Stephen Richards, who sadly passed away on 8th November 2025. 

So much has been written and said about Stephen since the tragic news broke - so many individual stories of how he connected people and gave a platform to a host of producers, artists and DJs out there who otherwise may not have had their voices heard or their talent recognised. BLD  - Stephen Richards Tribute 2025

The Black Light Disco Show returns with  another essential session of Monday-busting vibes and good music. 

This week it’s the turn of our super cool residents Pookie Knights, who have put together a show in tribute to the music and influence of Stephen Richards, who was sadly taken from us in November. Stephen was instrumental in bringing all of us at Black Light Disco together, with his show Disco Daze acting as the connective tissue we all shared. Pookie Knights have  a long association with the show, being one of the first artists to feature a guest mix on DiscoDaze way back in June 2018 and then seeing several of their releases previewed on air.  The boys’ show features some of their favourite Stephen Richards tracks and a re-run of their DiscoDaze guest mix from 9th April 2021.

Once again, we’ll let the music do the talking.

BLD 1st Dec 2025 Pookie Knights'  Stephen Richards  Special

Darren Daz Dalton aka one half of dj duo Get Down Edits & the man behind all the Get Down Edits production work has been a music lover since his early teens & began collecting Vinyl back in 95 at the tender age of 15 by the time he hit 17 he was out playing gigs in bars & clubs in his native Waterford City & has been djin ever since, 
Over the years he has supported or played beside international djs like Kenny Dope (MAW), 
Kerri Chandler, Chez Damier, Greg Wilson, DJ Deep, The Revenge, Atjazz & Charles Webster to name a few & as part of Get Down Edits alongside dj partner Martin Roche has 
been doing the festival and international circuit with great reception playing some incredible events including the famous Glastonbury in 2016, Electric Picnic, Body & Soul, Electric Elephant in Croatia, the House of Disco Warehouse Project Takeover in London, and so on. Summer 2017 saw Get Down Edits playing as part of the Glitterbox Ibiza family alongside huge names like Dimitri From Paris and Aeroplane at the incredible Hi Ibiza venue and Defected Croatia at The Garden in Tisno, they also went onto to play Suncebeat Croatia,
Production wise Darren grew a curiosity & interest in how the records he was playing were put together very early & started doing edits for use in his own dj sets back 2001,
It was years later before the whole edit scene emerged & he was drawn to it straight away & under the advise & encouragement of Greg Wilson set up Get Down Edits the record label in 2011, since then the labels put out 6 vinyl releases which included his own edit work along side guest producers like Late Nite Tuff Guy, Deep & Disco (JKriv), Fingermann, LTJ as well as releasing with other labels including Disco Deviance, Editorial, Samosa Records, Glenview Records, Daje Funk, Queen & Disco, Wall Of Fame, Masterworks Music, Nang, Paper Disco, Hot Digits, File Under Disco, Re-Loved, Golden Soul, Slighty Transformed, Hotbox Boogie, Reckless Records, Deep Sense, Alpaca Edits, Unkwn Records, Ism Records, Elevation Recordings & Midnight Riot.
Darren has also been busy with remix work & has remixed for artists like Funk My Jesus, Nine Lives, Heion, Slync, JMRS, Darran Nugent, Oh Yeah, JFunc, Stephen Richards, Smashed Atoms, JB Dizzy, Jay Ru, Fran Deeper & Rayko, Soopaman inc feat Andre Espeut, JKriv & The Disco Machine As well fellow Irish artists & acts like Le Galaxie, King Kong Company, Kormac, Danny G & The Major 7th`s & Peter Vogelaar as well as written some original pieces of his own including “Sweet Love” where he teamed up with two piece Irish electronic act Cut Once which got released with a serious of remixes from Mix & Fairbanks, Fingerman, Jay Ru, Micko Roche,

The idea of Black Light Disco became a real thing when a few like-minded DJs and producers came together to put on a night showcasing the very best in disco, house and funk and everything in between. The BLD team comprises of Esteban, Goz (Spin City), Pookie Knights, Cole Kutz (Opentempo.fm) De Gama and Fingerman (Hot Digits) – clocking up decades of DJ’ing and dancefloor experience between us. As individuals, the BLD team have been producing consistently high quality sets over the last few years. Now, as a collective, the aim is to make Black Light Disco THE place to promote new music and to bring you the very best in established/up-and-coming artists and producers in the sunlit uplands of sonic pleasure. 

In January 2020, we launched a weekly show on THE biggest house music FM radio station in New York, MyHouseRadio.fm (also available digitally at www.myhouseradio.fm).  The Black Light Disco Show airs every Monday exclusive to MyHouse Radio between 7pm – 9pm GMT (2pm -4pm EST), bringing you the finest in disco, funk and boogie; all delivered by our expert in-house Sonic Consultants (resident DJs) with guest mixes from the hottest producers, DJs and artists out there right now.
