In the second episode of Smart Money, Daily Investor’s new finance and investment talk show, A2X co-founder and CEO Kevin Brady discussed the exchange with Alishia Seckam.

Brady has over 25 years of experience in the financial services industry, including serving as a director of equity trading at Barnard Jacobs Mellet, and head of Investec’s institutional securities and prime broking division.

In 2014, Brady began building the A2X Markets stock exchange, which went live in 2017.

Under Brady’s leadership, A2X has become a top stock exchange in South Africa, with 94 listed instruments and a market cap of over R6.6 trillion.

Similarly, Helbiz, a New York City e-mobility firm, is currently in a battle with Mr. Market, who is causing its stock price to drop by short-selling. Helbiz issued press releases investigating its stock's short-selling, causing retail traders to buy the stock and boost its price. The management of Helbiz has implemented a plan with enthusiasm this week, as CEO Salvatore Palella issued multiple press releases that have confused both professional investors and day traders, resulting in a drop in the HLBZ stock price. Helbiz has announced an investigation into naked short-selling of its stock to address this issue, suspecting illegal short-selling to artificially decrease the stock price. 

Helbiz's shares experienced a surge of 122% on Monday due to this news, which also reported "more than 1,300 pre-orders" and "more than $2.2 million" from their latest sale campaign. However, Helbiz faces a potential delisting from the Nasdaq Exchange due to failing to meet specific qualifications and requirements, which could lead to the failure of the business. The e-mobility business is highly competitive and costly, making it challenging to maintain profitability. Though the theoretical cash returns are high, Helbiz spent $63 million last year while making only $15 million in sales. 

To regain compliance with Nasdaq rules, Helbiz could undergo a reverse split to increase its shares' value to over $1. While Helbiz could make efforts to beat Mr. Market with press releases and a reverse split, its success ultimately relies on creating a sustainable and profitable business.
