When the project "When Summer Comes" was released in 2019, the next chapter didn't seem so far away. The EP dropped, and life started to move fast up until 2020. Like everyone else, plans to perform and promote were put on hold.

I could have released more music, but I didn't...

Perfection plagued my thoughts with anything that I wrote. I relied heavily on outside circumstances to push forward, yet the power was always in my hands. This song was originally recorded in 2022, and knew its time would come when a new body of work was forming. 

This is a letter that's been held close for too long. I hope it will suffice.

How Far I'll Go

"grEY" ... is very personal and emotional song even though it doesn’t sound like it at first listen. It is a valve trying to compensate what was happening in that very time period. It is one of the rare songs where the music, the lyrics and melodies really reveled at the same time. You can hear the rest- and hopelessness, but it still gives a little glimpse of hope. Just like real life.

Christopher O’Hare (1867 - c. 1943) composed “Sea Song” in 1918 "for surf scenes, on the sea, sailors etc.” as part of Oliver Ditson’s “Music for the photoplay” series, intended to accompany movies in the silent era. It’s a late romantic theater orchestra composition — a rolling 12/8 time blizzard of arpeggios. Though brief, it could have been looped for longer scenes. 

Our recording started using Optical Music Recognition (OMR) applied to scans of the original copies of theater orchestra parts from 1918. The OMR product was edited in Dorico, assembled into a score and exported to Logic Pro to be recorded with sampled instruments. 

This piece was interpreted rather freely: the original organ part was mostly omitted, with the retained parts being performed by a synthetic choir. The low brass melody -- written for trombone - was recorded using a Euphonium sample.

The artwork is based on a Currier and Ives hand colored lithograph captioned “A squall off Cape Horn”. The print was originally published between 1840 and 1890. Library of Congress bookmark: https://www.loc.gov/pictures/item/97514621/.

Sea Song (Christopher O'Hare)

I wrote this score during an exchange semester in Perth, studying Music Composition at the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts. For one of our assignments we were given the task to score two scenes from two different movies, one of them being 'Portrait of a Lady on Fire'. We also received a director's brief with some rough guidelines, e.g. to incorporate baroque elements that would later form into a leitmotif which could then be used throughout the rest of the film.

'Portrait of a Lady on Fire' is a film about a complicated love relationship between two women in the 18th century. It was directed by Céline Sciamma. Para One and Arthur Simonini wrote the original score for the film. 

For the opening scene I wanted to create a sentimental and grieving theme to show the main protagonist's desperate and unabated queer love for another woman against the backdrop of the rigid and prim conventions during the 18th century which the plot is set in. The first theme is very emotive and relies on celli as the main instruments. The second part of the score however starts in a fast-paced Baroque style recalling the stormy Presto of the Summer in Vivaldi's Four Seasons as a metaphor for the main protagonist's vivid memories of her love amidst turbulent and controversial times.

Julius Jendrezok is a German filmmaker and composer. Having worked in the film industry for several years, he started to combine his work in the movies with his skills as a pianist as well as his composition aspirations by writing the music for several short films. Today his repertoire goes beyond film scores and includes both classical and contemporary works. His recent studies at the Western Australian Acaddemy of Performing Arts (WAAPA) in Perth marked another important step in his career path.
