The Peruvian-raised and Berlin-grown artist, Sofia Kourtesis, puts her kiddy cats away for the hour to discuss her drive behind the cause, her musical upbringings, and the prospective threads she seeks. The refreshing Sofia Kourtesis has been a hurricane on the radar and has failed to disappoint with her newfangled EP, the rejuvenating and liberating Fresia Magdalena. The exceptional quality of the EP parallels her production possibilities and heightens her buzz. Delightfully cinematic and sunny, Fresia Magdalena EP is named after Kourtesis' mother, Fresia, and is dedicated to her activism work in their hometown Magdalena, Lima. The lovely Kourtesis embodies herself as an true empath; her grit for activism runs deep in her familial roots and personal experiences. Because despite pandemic headlines, plaguing issues perpetuate. Kourtesis' presence on the album is even more magnetizing, as enchanting synths wines and dines her (debut) velvety voice. The sample powerhouse pairs her lo-fi cuts with crisp rings and bell tones to compose a dancey blissful transaction. She also shares her multidisciplinary skillset in the hour and how her diverse expertise allows her to wholly steer her artistic vision. To ensure her concept is authentically executed from top to bottom, she holds visual and auditorial jurisdiction in all creative projects. This is Kourtesis’ final word about the album as she transitions into her next life chapter, moving away from Fresia Magdalena’s limelight and into the studio in the coming months to work on her next album.

When I gathered the music of Axel Boman for a Focus I did not imagine the enormous return of people (with the help of Axel who shared it on his page I admit it !!!)
Six months later I embark on a volume two and I continue to be surprised and totally in love with his productions as composers or remixers or his collaboration with John Talabot (Talaboman) ...
Each time the result is an unprecedented journey with very rich sound and melodic textures.
Even being a fan of his tracks, bringing all these works together brings another reading and sends us to another dimension like on the track "Just Imagine, Pt. I & II" and the sound of Oud or the rework on "Timecode" which gives us another vision etc ...

For his Studio Barnhus debut, Laurence Guy connects the dots between the lo-fi ambient investigations of his 2017 debut album Saw You For The First Time, the warm club sounds heard on All I See Is Her, last year’s standout 12'' for Tokyo’s Mule Music, and the London-based dj and producer’s long roots in deep drum’n’bass and dubstep soil. Xmas Time

One of my greatest memories of last summer was closing the main stage at Andra Halvan in Norway on an insanely hot Sunday afternoon in July. The organizers gave me the blessing to do it my way, resulting in a 5 hour session that still gives me the chills just thinking about it. Many people asked me then and afterwards about the music, but for some stupid reason I forgot to record the set.

Fast forward to last week, when I found one of the USB-sticks used at the gig, still with a music library named "Andra Halvan 2019". Since there's little to no DJ-activity for me in these strange times I decided to record something out of that vibe. Impossible to re-create the golden moments of last summer, but hopefully enjoyable for your private headphone/hi-fi pleasure of summers to come. Please play loud!

Torture the Artist is a webzine, or a magazine made for the internet, geared towards those with a passion for contemporary electronic music, with subgenres including Techno, Tech House, Deep House and Eletronica, as well as a small amount of Indie and Alternative. Founded in 2014 by Holger Breuer, a German native and lover of the arts, Torture the Artist now consists of ten team members from all around the world.

In addition to publishing interviews, music reviews, DJ charts and track premieres, the webzine hosts out a bi-monthly podcast series called 'art:casts'. This medium gives DJs and producers the artistic freedom to highlight their different musical styles while not being restricted by factors such as setting, and connecting them to a wider audience. 

Being in its sixth year, Torture the Artist has gained a strong and active online support group, including music enthusiasts to label managers and artists themselves, creating a cohesive community with music as their bond.

In 1995 me and my best friend had our own private radio show, recorded on cassette tapes. It was a dynamic and highly thought out show, seamlessly blending Ace Of Base-hits with imitations of popstars like "Hey, this is Whigfield, and you're listening to...."; a few spontaneous live recorded farts; and not the least our own divinely inspired songs. All tracks I sang were 15-20 minutes long, without exception, and only ended when my friend asked me to stop. I noticed that the longer time I sang the stronger and deeper became the experience. "Musical hypnosis" was apparently something for me then, as a 7-year old boy, and this is and will always be the case. Although I love most music made from the heart, I always come back to the 'devotional' or 'transcendental', whether it's Ambient, Classical, Jazz, Nyabhinghi, Huayno, Techno, Trance, House, Soul, African, Psychedelia etc. - music to make my spirit fly freely. And this is how I prefer to express myself as well, whether it's in the studio, behind the decks, on the dancefloor or in ceremonial contexts. 
To fly, to land, to move, to remember, to envision, to touch, to reach the beyond within - keep Music sacred.
