Episode 144 - A Conversation With MCPON 15 (Russ Smith)

It's never too late to start living your authentic life, just ask Denise Brogan Kator. A US Submarine Service Veteran, she earned her MBA at from the University of Colorado but it was at the University of Michigan (UofM) she began her life not only as an activist but as the first openly transgender law student. She later returned to the UofM as the first openly transgender law professor.
She has an over 30 year history of public and private advocacy on behalf of the LGBTQ+ community. While a resident of Michigan, she served as the Executive Director/CEO at Equality Michigan. Equality Michigan is the statewide anti-violence and advocacy organization serving Michigan's LGBTQ+ and HIV affected community.
She then joined Family Equality as Chief Policy Officer and interim CEO. Family Equality works to ensure that everyone has the freedom to find, form, and sustain their families by advancing equality for the LGBTQ+ Community.
Now retired she has reconnected with her submarine family leading their annual reunions. She may have slowed down some since retirement she continues to speak out against inequality everywhere and lift up the TGLB+ community.

Russia has secretly built an Arctic undersea surveillance network using Western sonar and fiber-optic technologies acquired through front companies. The system, known as “Harmony,” is designed to shield Moscow’s nuclear ballistic-missile submarines and challenge US and NATO naval dominance in the Arctic.
