Montreal label Suleiman Records deliver another unique package in their 13th digital release with two tracks from Valeria Croft, plus a remix from The Mekanism.

The project run by Darem Aissa treads an intriguing path between house and techno which has nurtured a devoted following within their corner of dance music. Acting as both a hub for Aissa's productions and presenting guests from around the globe, previous releases have featured an array of artists bringing their unique flair to the table.

Mathias Schaffhäuser returns to Suleiman with an indie dance release that has a deep tech groove, and alongside the original music, there is also an electro-tinged remix by Pawas.
A veteran of the German scene who has been releasing music since the '90s, Mathias Schaffhäuser is a Cologne-based DJ and producer. He boasts an impressive back catalogue of releases including music on record labels such as Kompakt, Souvenir Music and Third Ear Recordings. This is Mathias Schaffhäuser's second release on Canadian record label Suleiman, and along with his original track, he has also produced two alternative versions.
‘6 Uhr Morgens (Vocal Version)’ is a new arrangement of a classic song by Mathias Schaffhäuser, which was featured as an instrumental on his classic album from 1999 called Lido Hotel. The vocals are newly added to the updated version, and give it a revitalised sound with added psychedelia.
On remix duty, Pawas is an Indian artist living in Germany who is highly respected for his atmospheric style of deep house which incorporates elements of disco. He has released on labels such as Spectral Sound, Get Physical, Seven Villas and Compost.
"6 Uhr Morgens (Vocal Club Version)" opens the release, and its a moody cut with pulsating sub-bass and trippy synths that are overlayered with shuffling high-end percussion. It's got a psychedelic atmosphere that is characterised by a hazy vocal and hallucinogenic tempo switch in the midsection. The 'Vocal Version' is considered the original mix of the 2023 version, and it drops the tempo while also making more prominent use of the vocal. The 'Instrumental Version' removes the vocals to focus on the leftfield elements of the groove.
Pawas' remix of 6 Uhr Morgens adds a new chugging bassline and melody that compliments the original's vocals. It's a mesmerising version that lifts the energy without losing the original's vibe.

Doubtingthomas drops a deep and techy release with stripped-back grooves via Canadian record label Suleiman.

Based in France, Doubtingthomas is known for his tracks and remixes on highly respected record labels ranging from Burnski's Constant Sound to Butane's Little Helpers, and he also runs his own imprint called The Promises.

Internationally respected as both a producer and DJ, Doubtingthomas has played sets at clubs and festivals in locations ranging from Washington in America to Berlin in Germany. His immersive style is a hypnotising blend of dynamic percussion and intricate synth lines.

"Stop for a Minute" opens the release with shuffling percussion and a bumping bassline that's rich with sub-bass. Dubby chords fill the track with lush tones and swelling synths that are reminiscent of an air raid siren that create dramatic tension.

"Clockwork" is a mesmerising track that orientates around a fluttering arpeggio line and techy percussion. Abrupt textures burst forth from the speaker to create striking atmospherics that contrast with the tranquil flow of the melody.

"Syncopation 1992" has gliding pads that create a tranquil atmosphere, which is cut by crisp percussion and haunting vocal textures that have soulful undertones. Delicate piano chords add jazz influence to this moody cut of soothing deep house.
