Better Daze is a contradiction. Jangly reverb-drenched guitars paired with driving bass and drums direct the listener into an uplighting, indie pop headspace, invoking the listener to draw comparison to bands such as DIIV, Alvvays and Real Estate. However, a deeper dive into the lyrics uncover elements of loss, loneliness and anxiety which heavily protest against the cheery instrumentation. Better Daze details the fictional story of a woman reeling from the untimely and tragic death of her fiance, and the meddling influence of her invasive father. Throughout the song, the listener is taken on a journey throughout the flashpoints of their entwined stories and charged to detect whom they resonate with most. Regardless of the conclusion that is made, the listener will surely be wishing for Better Daze of their own.
