This EP wasn’t made to impress — it was made to notice. To sit in stillness. To feel what lives beneath the surface. ‘Observer’ is a collection of live recordings shaped by attention, not control. No heavy edits. No overthinking. Just raw signal, unfolding in its own time.

Each track holds space: Minimal rhythm. Subtle pressure. Deep, evolving textures. There’s movement, but nothing forced. Emotion, but no explanation. I didn’t approach this as a performer — more as a listener. Letting the sound reveal itself. Letting silence shape the form. Sometimes the most honest music comes when you stop trying to shape it. When you simply watch — and allow.

For those who move quietly.
For those who feel more than they show.
For the deep listeners, the wanderers, the ones who never quite fit.

𝐀𝐥𝐅𝐚𝐞𝐫 @alfaer, an anagram created with the purpose of synchronizing different minds at a unique moment. In addition to being a regular presence at Gare club in Porto and having his residency in the cultural organization Alínea A, he is also the responsible for the foundation of Rapture, a music label and event promoter focused on musical styles such as EBM, Dark Wave and other industrial and melancholic sonorities that thrive around Techno.

Apart from this, he has always been a devotee of the aesthetics of obscurantism, striving for transversality within the various styles that cover electronic music. The dense and disconcerting atmospheres of his compositions quickly transform any dancefloor into a
place of worship for irreverence and musical liberty.

In this week's episode of Parallax, Dr Ankur Kalra welcomes Dr Courtney Maxey-Jones, Director of the Coronary Care Unit at Upstate University Hospital and a cardiac anesthesiologist intensivist by training. Dr Maxey-Jones co-founded and serves as Chief Operations Officer of GOMED, a not-for-profit organization transforming how we think about medical device waste and global healthcare equity.

Dr Maxey-Jones shares the origin story of GOMED - born from witnessing the staggering waste generated in cardiac operating rooms, where expensive single-use devices are discarded due to expiration dates or changing surgeon preferences. Together with her partners, cardiac surgeon Dr Farhan Nadeem and physician assistant Connor Wasilnak, they recognized an extraordinary opportunity to make use of these waste items.

Dr Kalra and Dr Maxey-Jones examine the ethical complexities of equipment reuse, the critical unmet needs for EP devices and cath lab equipment internationally, and GOMED's innovative partnership with Syracuse University biomedical engineering students to develop low-resource autoclaves. This episode reveals how observation of systemic waste evolved into a sustainable model for global cardiovascular care equity.

Newton Benneti nasceu em Guarulhos, em 1977. Criado no bairro do Cabuçu, ao pé da Serra da Cantareira, ele conviveu com a (boa) música desde sempre. Seu pai é João Nelson, musicista da banda Os Versáteis, que gravou com Tom Zé e Elis Regina. A música eletrônica chegou a ele pelos programas de rádio da Sound Factory. Iniciou a carreira de DJ em 1996, no grupo “Código Negro”, de Guarulhos. O interesse pela música eletrônica vem no ano seguinte e, em 1999, começa a produzir. Apresentou-se em clubes lendários como a Lov.e e raves como a Fusion. Em 2001, muda-se para o interior de São Paulo e começa a faculdade de Filosofia na Universidade Estadual Norte do Paraná (Uenp). Ali atua em movimentos estudantis e segue com a produção musical e apresentações no circuito universitário na fronteira entre São Paulo e Paraná. Em 2010, lançou seu primeiro EP internacional pelo selo Chibar Records, da Alemanha. Hoje continua produzindo e lançando música eletrônica distante do mainstream, e transitando entre diversos gêneros da música eletrônica não comercial. Do Deep ao Techno, com pitadas de psicodelia, Newton B. é DJ da resistência underground da música eletrônica brasileira.
