Martina habla de su vida en Guatemala antes de llegar a Estados Unidos. Su marido se marchó antes porque dijo que viviría una vida mejor en Estados Unidos. Ella lo siguió poco después y tuvo que dejar atrás a sus hijos y a su familia para empezar una nueva vida en EE. UU. Allí no fue recibida con los brazos abiertos ni contó con una red de apoyo, y su esposo continuó con el mismo estilo de vida turbulento que tenía en Guatemala. La entrevistada relata su experiencia con la violencia doméstica y cómo logró escapar. Luchó por encontrar su lugar, pero finalmente encontró trabajo y una comunidad. Allí ha desarrollado una red de apoyo y continúa trabajando en la agricultura.

Martina speaks about her life in Guatemala before coming to the United States. Her husband left prior because he said he will live a better life in America. She soon followed and had to leave behind her children and family in order to pursue a new life in the US. Here she was not greeted with open arms or a support system and her husband continued the same turbulent lifestyle he had back in Guatemala. The speaker talks about her experience with domestic violence and how she escaped it. She struggled to find her place but eventually found work and community. Here she has developed a support system and continues to work in agriculture.

This song was written at a time when I honestly didn’t know if I’d ever come back from the grief and confusion I was living in. The feeling of drowning—of being buried under the weight of memories and regrets—was real. But “Recovered” is about more than just being stuck in the dark. It’s about the small, stubborn spark that makes you want to keep fighting for yourself, even when you don’t believe you’re worth saving. I wrote these words as a letter to my future self, proof that healing is slow and survival sometimes just means making it through the day.
