Given the amount of genres, styles and currents that make up the jazz tradition, it is not possible to formulate a definition of jazz that includes them all. Some important elements in jazz are syncopated rhythm, swing pronunciation and improvisation. However, past attempts to define jazz on the basis of these elements have been reductive.

Formally known as Buttercloud and The Night Magnets, he released his second album as Red Jacket, entitled Chasing the Shadow on July 19, 2024.  His latest single, Fresh Start will be released on February 26, 2025.
