Dominik, Kevin und Florian begleiten Sly Stallone alias Rambo auf seinem letzten (?) Rachefeldzug und vergießen dabei das LAST BLOOD.

Dabei geht Rambo nicht zimperlich zu Werke, ist der mittlerweile 5. Teil der Reihe neben JOHN Rambo doch auch die brutalste Fortsetzung. Auf der einen Seite hoch reaktionär und wenig einfallsreich, auf der anderen Seite stimmt die Action und  bietet einen in die Jahre gekommenen Action-Helden in Topform.

Reite mit uns auf eine Farm nach Arizona, pack Pfeil und Bogen ein und und nimm vorsichtshalber ein paar Gummihandschuh mit, sollten chirurgische Eingriffe am offenen Herzen von Nöten sein. Das Messer dazu hat Sly in seinem Gürtel.

Denzel Washington returns for the third and final instalment of the Equalizer trilogy, in which former government assassin Robert McCall devotes his time and skills to avenging for the little guy. This time, he finds himself in Mediterranean Europe, embroiled in a fight to protect a coastal town from terrorisation by the Camorra, the Mafia of southern Italy.

The Equalizer 3 shares the contemplative tone and pervasive sense of loss of its predecessors. Here, there's a focus on physical infirmity and vulnerability, a gunshot McCall receives early on forcing a long recuperation, slow, careful approaches to walking down stairs, and the use of a cane. Action erupts quickly and violently, emphasised by director Antoine Fuqua's camera and editing - McCall is wounded, but maintains his ruthlessness and murderous efficiency.

We compare the action and Washington to Rambo: Last Blood and its star, Sylvester Stallone, which took a similarly staccato approach to its action, clearly informed by Stallone's age and inability to move as gracefully as he used to - this film is doing something similar, but less thuggishly, if no less violently. We question the ease with which moral decisions are made in this world, in which right and wrong are easily distinguished and the involvement of a vigilante is sold as an obvious necessity and benefit; the film's look, which fails to show off its spectacular location; and some of its writing and contrivances, particularly concerning Dakota Fanning's character, a CIA analyst contacted by Robert, and the Camorra. And we discuss McCall as a neurodivergent superhero.

The Equalizer 3 is a flawed film with a fair bit of dumbness to overlook, but it is easy to do so when the portrait it paints of local life and close community is so absorbing and inviting, and its star has such presence, warmth, and intelligence. It's an easy film to recommend, bearing in mind that it's a work of vigilante fantasy. After all, if Batman's allowed to take the law into his own hands when the institutions around him fail, why shouldn't Denzel be? At least he doesn't pretend not to kill people.

Gasen i botten, triangeldrama och ett jävla gnissel i både kurvor och filmskapande. Grabbarna ger sig på den inte alltför omtalade DRIVEN (2001), filmen som både Stallone och Renny lite småskäms över - känns det som.

Utöver att podden försöker analysera varför filmen inte blev speciellt omtyckt så blir det också en halvt grundlig utredning kring Burt Reynolds släktträd. Vidare minns pojkarna också den enastående serien "7th Heaven", spekulerar kring 8-ball'ens betydelse och återger dagen när Coma Cop träffade formel 1 chaffisen David Coulthard.

Bevor sie den Vierten und aufgrund des Kassenflops vermutlich letzten Einsatz bestreiten, lassen sie die vergangenen drei hundsgefährlichen Missionen in ihrer Kommandozentrale noch einmal Revue passieren. Es folgt die letzte große Herausforderung, die auf einem alten Frachter sein explosives Finale findet. Nein, mit dem Begriff alter Frachter ist nicht Megan Fox gemeint, die aber vermutlich ähnlich viel Spachtelmasse für das Ausbessern ihrer Dellen benötigt hat, wie die Crew des Frachters für das Flicken des demolierten Rumpfs. Okay, das war Böse, aber EXPEND4BLES muss man schon mit etwas Ironie begegnen, um diesem Machwerk noch etwas positives abgewinnen zu können. Oder ist er gar nicht so übel? Folge 183 - The Expendables 4 (Jason Statham, Sylvester Stallone, Dolph Lundgren)

Nicht nur für die alte Generation – zu welcher zum Beispiel unser Florian gehört – ist die ROCKY-Saga immer wieder inspirierend und zeitlos. Die Musik, die Trainingsmontagen  – insbesondere in Teil 4 – lassen selbst Sportmuffel zumindest darüber nachdenken, ein bissl in die Muckibude zu gehen (oder wie Kevin, anderen dabei zusehen, wie sie hingehen). Teil 4 ist Propaganda-Kino pur, wie es in den 80er Jahren fast in jedem Actionfilm Gang und Gebe war. Das ist nicht mehr zeitgemäß, aber es macht einfach Spaß und ist extrem unterhaltsam. ROCKY IV lässt den Osten gegen den Westen antreten, der Kalte Krieg im Ring – in der Gestalt der Muskelpakete Sly Stallone und Dolph Lundgren. Da wird nicht nur die Boxershorts nass vor Freude.

Florian, Kevin und unser lieber Stammgast Karl Martin Pold lassen mittels Audiokommentar die verbalen Fäuste fliegen. Gemeinsam huldigen sie den KAMPF DES JAHRHUNDERTS. Episode 421 Giving A Flying Leap

We're celebrating one full year of being unlikely partners on the podcast beat by finally getting around to what we've been told is one of the all-time great buddy cop movies. Yes it's 1989's Tango & Cash, directed by a three-headed monster of directors on a deeply troubled production but overseen in post-production by Demolition Man editor Stuart Baird, and starring Sylvester Stallone, Kurt Russell, Jack Palance, Teri Hatcher, Brion James, James Hong, Michael J. Pollard, Robert Z'Dar, Lewis Arquette, Eddie Bunker and Clint Howard. No sense sugar-coating it, she doesn't want it to be a secret: Hayley hated this movie. But J Mo still makes the case for its not-so-guilty pleasures, and we reflect on a full year of doing the show.

Of course, with the Oscars on Sunday we also take a quick minute to make our picks in the major categories, leading Justin to discover that while he's now seen 100 films from 2023, he's somehow missed almost all the Oscar movies. Embarrassing. We're going heavy on Oppenheimer. Big surprise.
