Darkroom is the debut LP by Berlin-based producer and DJ Mottomo — a bold, immersive sound experience through repression, eroticism, and the queer underground.

Crafted as a 60-minute conceptual album, Darkroom is more than just techno. It’s a personal act of resistance and emotional expression. Each of the six tracks — titled Lab1 to Lab6 — nods to Berlin’s Lab.oratory club: a space of anonymity, transformation, and raw sexual energy. The record is dedicated to those experiences that are hidden in the dark, censored by society, or forced into secrecy.

What makes this album even more reflective is its sound foundation: all rhythmic textures and atmospheres are built around original field recordings captured in the tunnels of the Moscow underground metro — a place of deceptive beauty and control, located beneath a city where queer identity is still treated as extremism.

The brutalist energy of trains, rails, and underground machinery becomes a metaphor for both survival and oppression. The Moscow metro — the literal underground of a homophobic state — becomes the backbone of an album meant to be played in the queer raves of Berlin, Paris, and beyond.

Darkroom is deeply inspired by Mottomo’s own experience of queerness in exile. Raised in Russia, he now channels his identity into sound, turning pain into power. The music is physical, relentless, but also intimate. It’s not meant for radio — it’s meant for fog-filled rooms at 4AM, for basements and backrooms, for bodies pressed against each other in liberation.

This is industrial techno not as trend, but as truth.
