We can’t talk about conservation without looking at the past casualties of human actions, like the now-extinct Tasmanian tiger, or thylacine. With a dog-like appearance and striking tiger stripes, thylacines were the largest carnivores in the marsupial family and actually not related to tigers or wolves at all. They had huge teeth-filled mouths and powerful jaws that could stretch open 120 degrees, and were widely feared by European arrivals to Tasmania in the 1800s. The settlers brought sheep and cattle and believed thylacines attacked them (despite a lack of evidence). In reality thylacines were shy and mostly hunted small prey like birds and rodents. Bounties were offered for dead thylacines and thousands were killed. Finally in 1936, 59 days after the thylacine was officially declared a ‘protected species’, the last thylacine died in a zoo after being accidentally locked out in freezing temperatures overnight. No other living thylacines were ever found. It’s truly tragic that these unique animals were wiped out. We need to take action now to help save other species from extinctionand therefor all proceeds from this release will be donated to World Wildlife Fund (WWF).

With nicknames like “Demon Owl“, “Ghost Owl“ and “Death Owl”, Barn Owls have long been seen as harbingers of death and misfortune by many rural populations. These moon-faced birds are exclusively nocturnal, so with their pale feathers and creepy silent swooping it’s easy to see how they could be mistaken for ghosts. But far from being a bad omen, if you’re ever lucky enough to catch sight of one in real life you’ll see how beautiful these ultra-efficient predators really are. Barn Owls usually nest in (surprise surprise) old barns and hollow trees, and hunt rodents in wild grasslands. Destruction of these habitats is causing Barn Owl numbers everywhere to decline. Protecting rough grass areas and building owl nesting boxes helps, but more needs to be done. and BirdLife International is on it. By donating all proceeds to them we make sure owls have a place in our world!

Bears have run wild in the human imagination for thousands of years - as threats to a porridge-loving Goldilocks, as cuddly Teddy companions, as raging man-eating beasts, and even inspiring the names of star constellations. Human developments like logging, mining and road construction combined with global warming is bringing drastic change to the places bears call home. This reduces their access to safety and food, and often brings them into conflict with residents, farmers and livestock. More gruesome threats come from illegal hunting, trapping and trade in bear body parts. Love them, fear them, or both, nobody wants to see these furry legends wiped out. Buy the release because we will donate all proceeds to the Heinz Sielmann Foundation to do something about it.

The Grim Hellhound boys are back on the label with a brandnew EP and again they deliver four rocksolid tracks for all those who like it funky, techy and minimal. The artwork is provided by Mimbelbi.

This cute chubby chap is a common vole. Have you ever seen one? Maybe not - despite being one of Europe’s most numerous mammals, they’re pretty shy and rare to spot in the wild. They might be “common” for now, but intensive agriculture is pushing them out of the countryside fields they call home. Voles help keep fields and meadows lush and green by burrowing in the ground and churning up soil nutrients. A decline in vole populations will also affect the predators who eat them, like foxes and kestrels, pushing them to hunt other rarer species and throwing the food chain out of balance. We need to protect every creature, even if they’re tiny and not (yet) endangered. All proceeds from the release will be donated to The Heinz Sielmann Foundation.

With their captivating orange eyes and flamboyant quizzical eyebrows, eagle owls are one of the most striking birds you might encounter on the Eurasian continent. Eagle owl numbers fell drastically throughout the 20th century. Many were killed accidentally in collisions with barbed wire and electricity pylons, and seen as threats to game species (birds hunted for sport), they were often deliberately shot or poisoned. Eagle owl populations are on the up since steps have been taken to reintroduce them. Today, if you’re very lucky, you might catch sight of one in woodland areas across Europe. We need to address the damage humans have done to help eagle owls and other birds like them. That’s why we will donate all proceeds from the release to Greenpeace.
