Kick up the tempo with a little synthpunk on a Thursday.  

There are no guitars on this track, but otherwise, it is all punk rock (so, you know that Lois Lane is a fan.)  Aggressive and angry, politically minded, taking no prisoners.  

And still 100% Interbay.  

Hold on tight, this gets bumpy.  How do you get that punk rock spirit out of a bunch of machines?  You crank them up until they start smoking--and they you put them up to eleven!  (Which is one louder, innit?)  

i'm a big fan of this one, folks...so much so, I don't have much to say about it.    Just go ahead and listen to it--it is a blast of energy, at a perfect time to get blasted!

(Though, now I kind of want to head back down into the Labs and come up with "Knockdown Again!"--but, I'm still loopy...yes, even today (I'm such a lightweight, even, or especially, at my age.)

Well, you've got your metal/punk in my dance pop!  

Yes, once again...Interbay has become the Reese's Peanut Butter Cup of music, shared exclusively here on SoundCloud.  So, let's kick up the tempo, turn those amps up to eleven, overclock the synthesizers and make Icarus VERY nervous...for today's latest drop, "Xelebration."  

(And yes, we are at the point where most of the tracks that have titles that start with the letter "X" are more and more likely going to be made-up words...but, in this case, I do think it actually sounds like the title in the processed vocal sample used.)  

So, Interbay has dropped synthpunk tracks in the past--this time, I think there's more of a metal vibe in the guitars, rather than strictly punk.  I grew up in the Midwest, the metal thing is part of who I am, even if I leaned more towards the punk/post-punk and pop/dance scenes.  

And, as you already know if you've been following Interbay for any length of time, I do love tossing lots of ingredients into the pot as it cooks on the stove...even those that you wouldn't think should go together.  

Even if those ingredients really don't go together--how else can I learn?  

If you're feeling slightly sluggish this weekend, this might be the injection of energy you need to kick start your day and get to the projects you've been putting off too long.  Hook up your bluetooth speakers (which, being bluetooth, really don't need to be "hooked up"--I am so old) and crank up a little "Xelebration" and see if that doesn't put a little pep in your step.  (I just used the word pep--again, I am so old.)

METALLECON | WHY COFFEE BEANS BE DOUBLE?

Time to dip into the pre-SoundCloud era for Interbay, as another Monday means another RRR (Rethink, Remake, Remix) of a track that originally debuted as a music video on Facebook in 2023.  After staying in the very earliest for these RRR mixes for the first few, we're jumping all the way up to Experiment 88, which, in this RRR version, will be known as "Motorik Roll."  

This is a Motorik-style song about Motorik beats and songs/bands that utilize them.  If you've never heard the term "Motorik" before, this song will teach you.  If you're already familiar with "Motorik" then this song should put a smile on your face for how meta it all is.  

"Motorik" is a term most associated with "krautrock"--the experimental bands of the 1970s coming out of Germany, like Can, Neu!, Kraftwerk, and plenty of others (many of whom are named in LCD Soundsystem's "Losing My Edge" as being influential on where music would evolve to include in the next decades..  

I understand that some people feel that the term "krautrock" is offensive--I'm not meaning to offend anyone by using them.  There doesn't seem to be another word to describe what I'm trying to describe here.  

I should also note that the Kraftwerk being included here is less the electronic minimalists that they are best known for being--but the earlier version found on early albums Kraftwerk, Kraftwerk 2, Ralf & Julian, and Autobahn--those first three of which have basically been disowned by Kraftwerk as non-canon experimentalism in a more rock-ist direction.  Indeed, in these early days future Neu! drummer Klaus Dinger (one of the performers who has helped to define and describe what is meant when music critics discuss "motorik beats") was a contributing member to a far more conventionally instrumented--though certainly still as adventurous--version of Kraftwerk.  

The video for Interbay's Experiment 88, which can still be found on Facebook, incorporates live footage of this early version of the band from Winter 1970 (as shared by Rockpalast)--it may be the first time that the band was ever broadcast.  I am very fond of this footage--despite my using it to share Interbay music with it, homage or not--as the journey from hipster cool to confusion to enthusiasm that the live audience experiences is particular delightful.  (As is Florian playing the flute and Ralf playing a rare tube synth.)  

I'm not saying that Interbay is anything like Kraftwerk, Can, Neu! or any other band that could be lumped into the "krautrock" genre..merely that this track was always meant to pay homage to the sounds that would develop into the sounds that Interbay would be most influenced by--both on the post-punk side as well as the dance side.  

With the addition of some vocal elements, some eq and fx tweaking--and a cheeky easter egg for those who speak German (slightly given away by the new name this track's been given)--I'm proud to share this Interbay experiment with you as a proper Interbay SoundCloud track.  

I hope you'll take a listen to this bit of time travel, love signalling and, possibly, cultural appropriation (can one appropriate something based on cultural appropriation?  not sure...)  It is nowhere near as experimental as what it is paying homage to, as it does fit into the category of mutant pop quite well.  (In other words, it's got a good beat and you can dance to it!)

"I can just about remember who I used to be.  I'm not sure about this current version of me."  

The past couple of weeks have been emotionally rough for me, and it is always interesting to see if my emotional state influences the music I make.  And I definitely feel my struggles in the darkness and tension in both the music and the lyrics of this latest Interbay track, "Xpectations."  

The music is a rusty machine chugging along, doing the best it can to do the job it was built for--but it sounds like it could shatter into pieces at any moment.  The lyrics are some of the most personal that I believe I've crafted for any Interbay track ever...where I absolutely don't feel like I'm at my best and I'm trying to find the self-confidence to project a feeling of adequacy, the sliver of interest that might still be conjured in someone else towards me, the difficulty of marketing a flawed product...especially when that flawed product is me.  

...so, yeah.  A little dark and tense.  Not enough to save it for the upcoming Spooky Week, but certainly enough to make for a listenable and effective Interbay track.  

I always say that mmy latest Interbay track is one of my favorites I've ever made--and I definitely feel that way about this track.  I love the chuggy grind of this track, the combination of drum machines, synths, and guitars.  For as simple as the melody and arrangement is, there's actually a lot going on here, but I don't think it ever gets too busy.  Yeah, I think I did good with this one.  I hope you'll agree.
