 🎮 Inspired by The Last of Us | Alternate Storyline & Song Meaning 🎶
This song was created as a “what if” exploration of an alternate path Ellie could have taken—one shaped by faith. In my imagination, Ellie journeys through the world of The Last of Us as a Christian: vulnerable yet resilient, fighting to survive without losing her sense of hope, morality, or connection to God.
Even in a world where humanity seems lost and God feels distant, she holds onto her faith. She keeps going despite every reason to give up, believing that better days exist—even if not in the world she’s currently trapped in. While Ellie can’t see it clearly herself, the viewer/player can see God’s hand in her story: immunity, survival, spiritual strength, and the ability to overcome evil when everything is stacked against her.
I picture a moment in the game where she finds a guitar and, during a rare peaceful break in their journey, begins to sing—Joel listening in the background. Slowly he realises that the reason they’ve survived so many close calls might be more than luck… something greater has been watching over them.

In my version, Joel survives the second game and their bond becomes stronger than ever—almost father and daughter—unstoppable physically and spiritually. But eventually, the truth behind their suffering begins to surface. Their world wasn’t just the result of chaos… it was the result of a wager.
The devil had stood before God and demanded the chance to prove that even the strongest heart would crumble. He claimed that if Ellie were thrown into a world drenched in death, cruelty, and hopelessness, she would curse God, abandon Him, and become just like the rest. He was certain—no one could withstand a trial that severe. He believed he would finally break one of God’s children beyond repair.
But he underestimated her.
Every loss, every close call, every moment where she should have fallen… she kept going. Vulnerable yet unshaken, she held onto her faith when the world offered her every reason to let it die. What the devil meant for destruction became the very thing that forged her strength.
When she eventually dies, she finally sees the full picture—her greatest battle wasn’t the infected or the world around her… it was the spiritual war waged over her soul. And she won. God welcomes her home and rewards her beyond anything this broken world could ever give—but that part is another story entirely.
