Are udible frogs, crickets, scops owls and the european nightjar (from around ~ 1h rec. time). In this night the full moon illuminated the entire beautiful surrounding area. Live Tuscany Recording - Celebrating Miranda & Chrissybear

ORTF Field Recording Session 16/10/2025 in the Lagastrello Pass using Lewitt LCT 440 microphones in ORTF setup with Zoom F3 recorder. The Lagastrello Pass is a mountain pass in the Tuscan-Emilian Apennines (Italy), located at 1,198 meters above sea level, connecting Lunigiana (Tuscany) with the provinces of Parma and Reggio Emilia. It lies within the Tuscan-Emilian Apennines National Park and is nearby Lake Paduli. The microphones were positioned in a woodland creek within a dry stream bed. The day was quite windy, and the autumn foliage colors of the trees ranged from yellow to deep red.

La mia passione per la musica nasce sui banchi delle scuole medie. Ricordo ancora l’emozione la prima volta che entrai nella “stanza studio” di un amico più grande: davanti a me due Technics 1200, un mixer LEM DM81 e pile di vinili colorati. Erano gli anni dell’Italo Disco e io passavo ore a guardarlo mixare, sognando di poter toccare quell’attrezzatura.

A casa mi arrangiai con quello che avevo: un giradischi da stereo senza pitch e a cinghia, un mixer a due canali senza gain né equalizzatori e, come “pezzo forte”, un vecchio Technics con pitch a rotella. Con questo “impianto di fortuna” iniziai a provare a mixare i 45 giri dei miei genitori: rock, liscio, anni ’60 e perfino dischi di fiabe.

Col tempo arrivarono i primi upgrade: due giradischi a cinghia con pitch, un mixer con gain e finalmente i miei primi vinili, che custodivo come tesori. Le prime feste arrivarono presto, e naturalmente ero io a mettere i dischi.

La vera svolta fu quando il mio amico decise di vendere tutto: giradischi, mixer e vinili. Dopo mesi di insistenze con i miei genitori, riuscì a diventare mio. Da lì iniziai ad esercitarmi quotidianamente, anche se senza nessuno che mi insegnasse era dura. Così cominciai a frequentare le discoteche, osservando attentamente i DJ resident e “rubando” con gli occhi i loro segreti. Tra i miei maestri inconsapevoli: Riccardo Cioni, Steve Martin, Albert One e tanti altri.

Fondamentale fu anche l’amicizia con Carlo Dee, con cui iniziai a suonare ai veglioni studenteschi, condividendo la console con nomi già affermati come Francesco Zappalà, Linus, Albertino. La vera folgorazione arrivò vedendo dal vivo Marco Trani in un locale a Roma.

Il primo locale arrivò poco dopo: il White Sox di Follonica, inizialmente disco-bar e poi trasformato in discoteca con due sale. Nella sala principale divenni resident insieme a Massimo Altomare, mentre Carlo Dee guidava la sala house. Furono anni meravigliosi: tre serate fisse a settimana, locali pieni, ospitate in tutta Italia e pellegrinaggi nei templi della nightlife come l’ECU di Rimini, l’Echos di Misano e il Red Zone di Perugia.

Alla fine degli anni ’90 lasciai il Sox e iniziai a suonare in vari locali della zona: Gasoline, Black Sun, Capannina, Formentera Beach e molti altri. Ma il mondo stava cambiando: i gestori sceglievano i DJ non più per la tecnica o l’esperienza, ma per i PR e la gente che portavano. La qualità scendeva, e non mi riconoscevo più in quel sistema. Così, nel 2005, presi una decisione drastica: smettere. Per dieci anni non misi più piede in un locale.

In quegli anni anche la scena cambiò radicalmente: chiusero i negozi di dischi (mitiche le ore passate al Disco Più di Rimini), sparirono i vinili sostituiti prima dai CD, poi da chiavette USB e PC. La ricerca del disco giusto, l’emozione di suonare un vinile unico, lasciarono spazio a software e sync automatici. Il digitale, a mio avviso, ha appiattito tutto.

Poi, nel 2015, la fiamma si è riaccesa. Con una nuova consapevolezza e senza più l’ansia della carriera, ho deciso di tornare a suonare, ma solo quando ne ho davvero voglia e nelle situazioni che mi divertono. Oggi continuo così: con passione, con esperienza e con la stessa emozione della prima volta in cui vidi quei Technics 1200
