Feel The Rush

Typhon - Feel The Rush

In this track the Nord Lead A1 does keys, soft arp, bass and pads, Blofeld does the wavetable like arpeggio, and the drums is TAL sampler tr-808 stock kit.
The flanging strings heard is a A1 speciality. Also it has a rather convincing filter section with both Moog and TB ladder lowpass. More versatile than the Deepmind or your generic Moog but less low end of course (it is a lead synth after all), but it makes it up with more over all character, from that era before everything started sounding flat and uninspiring, both hardware and software.

My last couple of jams were a bit moody, so I wanted to get upbeat for this one. The main stabby synth riff is a Dreadbox Typhon and it’s ping-ponging (the dry signal is on the left to the wet “response” on the right). The hi-hat sound is a DFAM that is going through a slap-back delay. The rest are a Minitaur, Digitone II, Digitakt II, and my Syntakt for the drums.

Stuck in my head today so this was fitting. Dreadbox Typhon for the echoey bass, Digitone II for the pad, arp, & keys, Minitaur for the pumping bass, & Digitakt II for the kick & high hat.

Slowboy & TYPHON - Getting Hot

Since the Scary Stuff Podcast first started back in 2020, our love for the work of the late Keith Giffen has been mentioned time and time again. On the eve of the release of our prose superhero anthology WHERE LEGENDS WALK, which opens with a dedication to Keith, it felt like the right time to do an episode in memory of a creator whose work meant so much to us. 

For the first portion of this episode, we're joined by recurring pod guest (and brother of our host Jacob) Jeremiah Jones-Goldstein to discuss the 1987 DR. FATE mini-series from DC comics, pencilled by Keith Giffen and written by J.M. DeMatteis.

Following that discussion, J.M. DeMatteis was kind enough to return to our podcast for an interview, talking about the 1987 mini and his memories of collaborating with Keith over many, many years. This portion begins at 01:05:48.

Finally, we're delighted to be joined by first-time guest (but someone we've been hoping to chat with ever since the pod started) Brian Keene. In addition to chatting with us about his memories of Keith, we also discuss one of Keith's more horror-centric tales: "Chigger and the Man" from 1988's comic anthology TABOO. This portion begins at 02:00:45.
