RAY: What’s that then?
KEN:  It’s, you know, the final day on earth...when mankind will be judged for all the crimes they’ve committed...and that.  
RAY:  Oh.  And see who gets into Heaven and who gets into Hell and all that.
KEN:  Yeah.  
RAY:  And what’s the other place?  
KEN:  Purgatory.

It is the "spooky season" and, like a squirrel preparing for the winter months, I've been storing away some of the more "spooky" Interbay tracks that I've been making in order to do a week's worth theme of dark and/or scary posted tracks.  

There have already been more than a few dark and/or scary Interbay tracks already posted (maybe I should put a playlist together?)...but I'm sticking to my plan of not duplicating my efforts, if at all possible, with these SoundCloud Exclusive track posts.  

So, it will be eight tracks in a row with a darkness, a broodiness, an unease, a suspensefulness, an agitatative quality, a sense of foreboding, even, possibly outright horror.  (Eight tracks because although Halloween is next week...today...that means we're counting the same day of the week twice, so...though I promised there would not be any math, 7+1=8.)

...and we're starting with a track inspired by one of my favorite dark comedies of, let's say, the "recent" era.  The dialog snippets you'll hear when you play this track are from Brendan Gleeson and Colin Farell (yes, the original Grindlewald and, currently, The Penguin) from "In Bruges."  (Great film--not a horror film at all, though there will be blood.  There's always some blood, really.)  

As someone who grew up Catholic (which means I'm now an ex-Catholic), I too have pondered over the idea (and possibly reality) of Heaven and Hell...and the point of there being Purgatory--and that inspired this track...that weaves in some beautiful but frightening moments, full of dread lurking around each corner...and the double-kick drum ear-shattering horror one might expect from Hell.  (...at least for any of those unfortunate souls unlucky not to get Toby as their welcoming devil upon arriving for their first infernal day.)  

In some ways, some descriptions of Purgatory make it seem worse than Hell--the endless waiting for your fate to be decided, that you can't escape until it is.  Might make someone offer to take the down escalator, just to get it over with.  

This Interbay music production does not sound like what I would imagine Purgatory would sound like, if there was/is such a place.  I imagine that every speaker in the endless floor of office cubicles that Purgatory feels like it would be, would be playing an "elevator music" instrumental version of "Baby Shark", constantly on a loop...for eternity.  (...and with the volume just low enough that you can still make out what it is, but not, specifically, what part of the song is playing at any given time.)  

Not enough to be evil, but enough to push right up against the boundary of torture.  

Luckily, I don't have to believe in this stuff...at least, not until I arrive at one of three incredible destinations!  West World!  Medieval World!  Roman World!  ("Boy, has eternity got a vacation for YOU!")

It will be interesting to see how many of you will get into this themed week.  I think you'll find that the songs will sound surprisingly different from each other.  (I hope so anyway.)  But, as ever, they will ALL sound like Interbay.

Day Two of this Spooky Week of themed Interbay exclusive tracks here on SoundCloud brings us a technophobic horror classic from the 1970s turned into a chunky tech rocker.  

"It is something more than human, more than a computer.  It is a murderously intelligent, sensuously self programmed non-being."  

Sounds pretty terrifying, yes?  Well, it's a cult favorite...having disappointed at the box office, ruining the star power of its lead actress and driving the director severe depression in the years that followed, leading to his taking his own life.  

Hopefully nothing quite so dramatic will befall me from me being inspired by it to create today's Interbay track.  

This is not the first time that a '70s horror movie has inspired an Interbay track--over on the Interbay music project Facebook page, there are two songs that took its inspiration (and various dialog snippets) from "Ben"--the sequel to "Willard."  The movie also featured a title song that became a big hit for Michael Jackson--a love song to a rat named Ben.  So, full of horror, is what I'm saying.  

I can't guarantee anything, but I wouldn't be surprised if another track to be posted this week ALSO takes inspiration from a scary and/or horror movie...but I can't guarantee it won't, either.
