In February 1968, the Beatles traveled to Rishikesh, India, to study Transcendental Meditation with Maharishi Mahesh Yogi at his ashram. They stayed there for several weeks (the visit helped shape much of their thinking and music at the time), and it inspired songs that would appear on the White Album and later projects. George Harrison had already been influenced by Indian music and philosophy, and his interest deepened during and after the trip.
