Lincolnshire Drone is constructed using samples from a recording of The Lincolnshire Poacher shortwave numbers station. It broadcast from sometime in the 1960s until 2008 with the recording used here being recorded in 1997. This numbers station used short segments from the traditional folk song 'The Lincolnshire Poacher’ as its interval signal, hence its name. All sounds in the composition were created using heavily manipulated pieces of the original recording giving the piece a unique texture from radio static and artefacts from the original, analogue recording.

The original recording was first released as part of The Conet Project in 1997; an amazing archive of different broadcasts from around the world. The project has been an inspiration to, and has been used by, a variety of musicians and artists ever since.
