‘Only Yesterday’ é o segundo álbum dos Treewax, banda de rock alternativo do Porto, Portugal.
Depois do bem-sucedido lançamento de ‘Bleak Fall’ em maio de 2021, a banda promoveu o álbum sem tirar os olhos do futuro e, entre fim de 2021 e meados de 2022, encontrava-se já a escrever (ou adaptar algumas composições pré-Bleak Fall) o material que viria a ser gravado entre setembro e dezembro de 2022.
Todo o trabalho árduo materializou-se num álbum que supera todas as expectativas criadas pela banda desde o primeiro lançamento de sempre até aos concertos mais recentes.
‘Only Yesterday’ é um álbum repleto de amor e realizações, de raiva e arrependimento. Uma amálgama da existência humana e todos os seus problemas e virtudes. É, mais que tudo, uma reflexão das vivências da banda e de tudo o que os rodeia, bem como uma prova de maturidade dos elementos, especialmente do Gonçalo Ferreira, principal compositor da banda. Mostra também a capacidade que a banda tem para escrever desde baladas e shoegaze a punk rock a roçar o sludge.
Gravado no Calhambirintho Studios (exceto a bateria, gravada no Yellow Cat Studios), ‘Only Yesterday’ conta com mais camadas de sons, sintetizadores e até mesmo orquestras que ornamentam canções como ‘Forget You Again’, ‘The Rift’ e ‘They Don’t Care’, entre outras que foram lançadas desde o início do ano, altura em que os Treewax começaram a promover este novo álbum com o lançamento do EP ‘Sweet Memories’.
No entanto, a base pesada do power trio e o estilo não se alteraram, continuaram intimamente inspirados pelo grunge e alt-rock dos anos 80, 90 e 2000 Os Treewaxeiros (nome da fanbase) que gostaram dos lançamentos anteriores, certamente irão receber este trabalho de braços abertos.

The Rift: Uma das grandes novidades do álbum, ‘The Rift’ é uma balada de soft- rock comparável a projetos atuais de indie/bedroom/lofi. A canção convida o ouvinte a refletir sobre as escolhas que moldam as nossas vidas, especialmente as tentações e desejos mais profundos. Em termos de produção, é uma das músicas mais complexas. Repleta de camadas, de orquestra e ornamentação com imitações de Rhodes, Mellotron e até um metalofone de brincar modificado na pós-produção. Esta é, sem dúvida, uma das canções que promete ter uma receção extremamente positiva por parte dos fãs.
