The Calling

Emerging on the other side of the window, the delightful sound of a squeezebox fills The boy's head. He follows it to a busy seaport, up a gangway, and onto a huge wooden three-masted tall ship, just as the crisp white sails unfurl, catch the wind with a snap, a briny spray sparkles like little candies in the air, and out of the harbor they glide.

The Old Sailor ties the boy to the mizzenmast so he doesn't fall overboard, but he can grab the railing up on the second rung, wave to the dolphins swimming along side, laugh and dance with this merry crew, and enjoy this thrill he didn't know was possible!

The day after their friend Cathy's funeral, Margot, Tate, and Connie gather for a round of golf in honor of their recently departed fourth. There, they are joined by another woman, and old friend of Cathy's they had never met. Over the course of eighteen holes, secrets and confessions unravel as the women discuss love, sex, children, and everything in between. A funny, fast-paced heartwarming story of friendship.

The Sea Ranch Thespians are dedicated to bringing the most professional productions possible to the barn theater.
The Thespians started in 1998 using some 'affordable black fabric' as a backdrop and some contractor lights. We now have more than 100 professional theater lights, computers, projectors, theater curtains and equipment better than many professional theaters.

Acting talent comes from the local community and beyond - retired professionals as well as "I have never been on stage, but would like to try" folks have joined the Thespians and the directors are skilled in working with all. Local artists have volunteered their skills to add to set design, paint special backdrops, create program and poster designs and design and maintain this web site. The enthusiasm is catching.

The Knipp Stengel Barn was built in 1880 out of redwood from the near-by hills. Its size allows a stage to be erected in a variety of sizes, levels and locations. The acoustics are wonderful - no doubt appreciated by the animals who were the original residents.

The Barn Crew spent over ten years doing a structural renovation of the barn and then became skilled theater set builders. The crew gathers at the barn every Saturday morning at 9am. New volunteers are always welcome.

The performances are free - a gift to the community from Carol Emory and John Wingate (now via The Wingate Foundation).

Les voix de femme ne sont  pas générées artificiellement, elles proviennnent de pistes enregistrées par Suzz Dufour, aussi pour un autre projet mais,  avec sa bonne permission,  j'en ai extraits  deux échantillons pour cette pièce.

Suzz enregistre  dans son propre studio ses multiples pistes vocales (il y en a six ou sept pour obtenir la texture que l'on entends ici) et  les pistes sont ensuite  partagées via internet pour être placées dans l'arrangement final.

Musician in BandI was born and raised in Barbados.  Didn't really have much of a choice when it came to loving music, my uncle was a band leader, before giving that up to play only classical and religious music. I started music singing in a choir, then with a doo-wop style singing group. Calypso and Reggae were huge influences, and my first choice of performance music with the guitar.  

I moved to Manhattan, NY, and continued to develop as a musician and entertainer, playing with Caribbean and R&B bands.  ‘The Odd Four Inc’, was my first band as a leader.  We were initially a seven piece band, and later added a horn section. We played what is now called commercial/top forty music. We worked around NY and did a series of tours during the seventies, which eventually landed me in Newfoundland and finally Nova Scotia, where I continued playing with ‘The Odd Four Inc’, but now a four piece R&B Funk band, throughout Atlantic Canada for a few more years.  

We(my brother and I) were living in Antigonish when that group broke up. We started a band called the ‘Pete Stovel Blues Band’, with a couple other guys. It was around the beginning of the St.FX Jazz Program, and we got several good musicians from that program, including a couple of professors. 

In 1984, had the chance to work with a new group called ‘The Working Class Band’ for a few years before my brother and I formed the band ‘Overland’ which lasted for several years. We again hired students from the Jazz Music Department at St.FX for our band.

I also performed as an Actor with Theater Antigonish in a number of productions.  When ‘Overland’ broke up.  We restarted ‘The Working Class Band’, which is the band I play with now, as a lead singer, song writer and guitar player. We have released 5 CDs over the last 7 years.

Antigonish, Nova Scotia, has been my home for the last forty-seven years and continues to be a significant source of musical inspiration for me.
