EDUCATIÖN - JBustamante Remix Contest

I absolutely love this song by Pink Floyd. My goal was to get close to doing this amazing tune some justice as it's an iconic song off of The Wall. Reminds me of college and all those things some of us did (experimented with) while there. I sing, play drums, rhythm guitar, an attempt at lead guitar, and keyboards (I used a flute/string combo setting). All by ear minus the guitar chords. Recorded in my non studio basement music room utilizing a blue yeti mic and GarageBand.

Last year I posted an extended remake/rework/remix/reproduction of one of my all time favorite album "sides", Pink Floyd The Wall, Side 3. At the time, I left off the first two tracks, Hey You and Is There Anybody Out There. Just for fun, I decided to revisit the project, and go ahead and include the omissions to complete the collection! 

A multitude of digital means and methods were used to recreate these iconic tunes (which were originally done in analog, of course!). All vocals are 100% redone. Here's how everything else came together:

Hey You- Full reproduction, using some predone MIDI sequences, as well as my own playing and programming. I put flesh on the bones using a variety of synths and samplers. Joined on vocals by my Floydian friend and singing partner Tone Hjelt

Is There Anybody Out There?- Pretty much same as above! Used some predone MIDI sequences, some  my own playing/programming, and put a touch of the original instrumental track under the opening drone swell to enhance the sound. 

Nobody Home- A full reproduction I actually did a couple of years ago. All instruments and vocals are done from scratch, except for the original background sounds.

Vera- Also a full reproduction, all instruments/vocals newly done from scratch, with a revised arrangement from original.

Bring The Boys Back Home- Full reproduction, using East/West orchestral software, NI Kontakt, and my trusty Korg Kronos.

Comfortably Numb- My lead vocals recorded over reworked, predone instrumental backing track, including an layered alternate melody part (done by David Bowie in a live performance with David Gilmour). No pre-recorded BGV's on this one, all the vocs you hear are mine. Instrumentally, I again layered several synths/strings over the existing tracks to enhance and embellish the sound.

Anyone familiar with these tracks will recognize the interlude/background sounds from the original. I did a bit of remixing and added enhancements on these as well to make them stand out a bit more.

Everything I recorded was done via synthesizers, samples, and sequencing. All in all, a very fun and definitely challenging project! Didn't try to reinvent the wheel here, just tried to polish up the rims a bit, and create a more immersive listening experience for these timeless and iconic tunes!

Gohst Young Lust  (Pink Floyd) Flip

The 18th track from Pink Floyd's The Wall, Bring the Boys Back Home reflects on Pink's loss of his father from the war. As the drums celebrate the arrival of the lucky one's to come back alive, Pink feels the sorrow of not having a father to welcome home.
I covered the song as per the original version however I extended the song in a similar vein to Roger's version from his Lockdown Sessions.

Bring the Boys Back Home

Comfortably Numb is the 19th song from Pink Floyd's The Wall and undoubtedly one of Pink Floyd's most recognizable tracks of all time. My cover of this classic song is a tribute to the genius of Waters and Gilmour's final collaboration.
Comfortably Numb finds our protagonist Pink passed out in his hotel room, meanwhile his manager breaks down the door along with medical staff who revive him, pump him full of who knows what in order for him to perform on stage. The vocals are portrayed from two different perspectives, the doctor, administering the revivifying cocktail to Pink in his attempts to rejuvenate him and secondly Pink himself who vividly recollects past childhood memories as his consciousness fades in and out throughout the ordeal.

Music and mental health go hand and hand together. Music can influence my mental health and my mental health can influence the music I listen to and play. 

Life needs to be more playful. We don’t always have time for this in the path of life, but I feel strongly that we have to make room for play, whatever that may look like for your life.

Dare to be weird! Do you. Do what makes you happy and don't let what you think others might think stop you from trying! 

I play all the instruments you will hear. What I play I do try to tell an aspect of my mental health/illness story with  each song whether it be original or a cover. 

We need to normalize talking about our mental health. We need to normalize it being ok to ask for help if we need it. I know I’m glad I finally did. It has changed my life. A ton of battles fought along the way, as nothing likes to come easy, as you already know. 

We gotta fight. We gotta keep pushing forward. The good is still there and you can and will find it again.
