Muziekstijl : Retro House / Trance / Jump / Tekstyle

Mijn liefde voor muziek begon al heel vroeg, zo rond mijn 8ste. Ik luisterde toen veel naar New Beat en Popmuziek en dat was toen mijn grootste hobby. Ik was zo onder de indruk van die muziek dat ik steeds meer en meer cd’s en cassettes kocht. Ik keek heel hard op naar mijn neef die ook Dj was en die muziek speelde op allerlei evenementen in de buurt. Ik wou zoals hem zijn, zichzelf amuseren alsook het publiek op de dansvloer.

Muziek was ook heel belangrijk tijdens mijn schoolperiode. Je zag me geen dag zonder walkman en er werd ook heel veel muziek uitgewisseld zodat ik nog meer stijlen ging ontdekken. Toen ik 17-18 jaar was besloot ik dan de stap te zetten en begon ik zelf muziek te mixen, vooral met cd’s toen nog. Samen met één van mijn beste vrienden kreeg ik de kans om op kleine fuiven te draaien. Ik had de microbe natuurlijk volledig te pakken. We hebben toen ook de stap gezet om samen met een hele groep vrienden zelf een aantal fuiven op poten te zetten waar we onszelf nog meer konden promoten. Dat waren enorme successen in de periode 1997 - 2001.

In die periode gingen we ook zelf heel veel uit en ook naar megabeurzen waar ik uiteindelijk mijn eerste vinyl kocht terwijl ik nog geen platenspelers had. Ik wou gewoon absoluut die vinyl hebben ! Een half jaar later had ik al 20 vinyls maar nog steeds geen materiaal om ze af te spelen. Na een tijd had ik genoeg geld bij elkaar gespaard en kon ik het materiaal aankopen. Het eerste jaar nadat ik mijn materiaal had, begon ik op kleine fuiven te draaien in de buurt en deed ik ook mee aan vele Dj- contests tot zelfs in Nederland.

In die tijd draaide ik hoofdzakelijk wat nu “Retro House” genoemd wordt en ook heel veel trance & progressive. Trance was een tijdje populair in België maar dat heeft niet lang geduurd. Om echt door te breken moest ik een andere stijl gaan draaien en dat besloot ik ook te doen op mijn 23ste. Ik ging me meer en meer toespitsen op de hardere stijlen zoals Jump –en Tekstyle. Vandaag kan ik zeggen dat dat een heel goede beslissing was want toen ben ik echt beginnen doorbreken. Dit was ook mede dankzij mijn talrijke producties die heel goed aansloegen bij het publiek. Ik heb zowat in elke grote club in België gedraaid zoals Illusion, Cherry Moon, Ghosthouse, Complex, The Oh!, Le Cap'Tain, Le Cube, H2O, … en ook op vele grote events zoals Beachland, Summerbeatz, Luna Festa, Suikerrock, Sweet City Festival, ...

Naast al deze gigs was ik ook resident op “Kick Da Bass” in Illusion, elke eerste vrijdag van de maand. Naast deze residency werd ik door Dj Ghost gevraagd om eveneens resident te worden in zijn club “Ghosthouse” te Halen. Dit was voor mij een enorm mooie tijd, zowel vrijdag als zaterdag elke week alles geven !

Daarna heb ik bewust wat gas teruggenomen en me meer en meer beginnen te focussen op wat ik nog wilde doen. De “hype” van Jump –en Tekstyle was over en voor mij was dit ook even een keerpunt. Ik keerde terug naar mijn oude liefde om het zo te zeggen, namelijk “Retro House”.

Ik heb me hier terug volledig op toegespitst en in 2013, na een set in Dancehall Diest op mijn verjaardagsfeest, werd ik gevraagd om mee concepten helpen uit te denken. Ik kreeg ook een eigen concept nl. Kosmik's Playground.

Eind 2016 ging dan nog een kinderdroom in vervulling. Samen met Jan Vervloet & Dj Böf bracht ik een plaat uit op Bonzai, één van de meest bekende labels van België en gekend over de ganse wereld.

Naast mijn "Kosmik" project ben ik ondertussen ook actief als Techno Dj onder de naam "Rodrigo Ferran".
