Ante ti se alza uno de los conjuntos monumentales más majestuosos de Salamanca: la Real Clerecía de San Marcos, conocida popularmente como La Clerecía, junto con su espectacular recorrido por las torres, llamado Scala Coeli, o “la escalera al cielo”.

Este edificio imponente comenzó a construirse en el siglo XVII como colegio y residencia de la Compañía de Jesús, una de las órdenes religiosas más influyentes de la Contrarreforma. Encargada por la reina Margarita de Austria, esposa de Felipe III, la Clerecía refleja el poder político y espiritual del momento, expresado a través del lenguaje artístico del barroco español.

Su monumental fachada de tres cuerpos es una de las más espectaculares de la ciudad, y su iglesia de planta de cruz latina, decorada con profusión de estucos y dorados, fue concebida para deslumbrar y elevar el alma. En su interior, aún se respira la solemnidad de siglos de culto, formación teológica y oración.

Pero la joya secreta de este lugar está en lo alto: Scala Coeli, el nombre del recorrido que permite subir a las torres y cúpulas de la Clerecía. Esta ascensión, además de física, es simbólica: es un viaje desde la sombra de las naves hasta la luz de las alturas. A través de escaleras de piedra, corredores y balcones, el visitante va descubriendo vistas insospechadas del interior del templo y de la ciudad.

Al llegar a las plataformas superiores, se revela una de las mejores vistas panorámicas de Salamanca. Desde allí se pueden contemplar la Casa de las Conchas, justo enfrente, las torres de la Catedral, los tejados rojizos de la ciudad histórica, y en días despejados, hasta la silueta del campo charro al horizonte.

Scala Coeli no solo ofrece vistas. También propone una experiencia emocional, una forma de mirar Salamanca desde las alturas, comprendiendo su orden, su belleza y su historia desde una perspectiva que solo la arquitectura barroca puede brindar.

Hoy, la Clerecía es sede de la Universidad Pontificia de Salamanca, lo que mantiene viva su vocación formativa y espiritual. Caminar por sus pasillos es conectar con siglos de pensamiento, arte y contemplación.
