💔 This is a true story about my train journey from Bordeaux to Beziers in France. It took 3 hours longer than expected. This was due to the local poilce boarding the train in order to remove 100 football supporters, who were out of control.

Throughout all  I could think was, 'We need a woman in charge '!

For the feeling of traveling alone in an unfamiliar city before it wakes.

“My Dad’s the Engineer” is a dramatic and sentimental late-19th-century ballad typical of Charles Graham’s storytelling style. The song unfolds aboard a nighttime train journey where passengers are suddenly thrown into panic as the locomotive rushes through a forest fire. Flames illuminate the windows, sparks fall dangerously close, and fear spreads among everyone—everyone except one small girl.

At the heart of the song is this “tiny maid,” a calm and confident child who reassures the terrified passengers with a simple declaration of trust:
“There’s nothing to fear… my Dad’s the engineer.”
Her unwavering belief in her father’s skill becomes the emotional anchor of the piece. The refrain reinforces her message, emphasizing the idea that the engineer—her father—knows exactly what he’s doing and will bring them safely through the danger.
