Margaret Wesseling is a distinguished playwright, performer, and translator based in Athens. In our interview, we delved into her fantasy cultural year, brimming with surprises, anecdotes, and laughs.

Margaret's academic journey began with a Bachelor of Arts degree from Harvard University, graduating summa cum laude. She then earned a Master of Arts degree from Michigan State University. Her passion for medieval studies took her to the University of Groningen in the Netherlands, where she studied medieval textuality on a Fulbright grant.

Training and Early Career

Margaret's early career featured extensive training in theatrical performance and improvisation in Los Angeles from 1995 to 1997. She further developed her skills in theatrical writing by attending seminars in Athens starting in 2015. During this time, she participated in numerous dramatic readings and performances across Boston, Amsterdam, Los Angeles, and Athens.

Writing and Performance

Margaret has made significant contributions to theater and literature. She has written nine plays and two books of poetry, along with numerous articles in both Greek and English. Her works often explore themes of change and movement, reflecting her interest in the transformation of individuals and societies across political, economic, and personal borders.

Notable Works and Collaborations

Voices of our Ancestors (1998): A collaborative project produced and directed in Los Angeles with formerly homeless individuals at Glaxa Studios.

Sparrow on the Housetop (2018-2019): Published by Egokeros in November 2019 and performed in Greek at the Athens Suitcase Festival in September 2018, and at Beep Theatre in Athens from November to December 2019.

Something Missing (2022): Performed at K.O.T.E.S. Theater in Athens in the spring of 2022 and at Fournos Theater in the fall of 2022. It was also produced as a radio play by the Willits Community Theatre and Performing Arts Center in California in June 2022.

The Crack (2023): Produced and performed with Joëlle Montech in Athens in June 2023 and on Aegina in August 2023.

Margaret has also collaborated with the writer's group Scene+, alongside dramaturge Andreas Flourakis, to perform several textual performances of her writings.

Publications and Availability

Margaret's poems, articles, and synopses of her plays can be found on her website, m2write.com. Her book of poems, "What She Said," is available on Amazon, and "Sparrow on the Housetop" can be purchased at the Politeia Bookstore in Athens. The Greek version of her play "They're Digging a Tunnel" is available at play-ground.gr.

Current Projects and Interests

Margaret continues to engage with her audience through various platforms. She is currently working on translating her English-language plays for Greek audiences and exploring a series of animal-centric monologues that delve into the human-animal divide. She has expressed a keen interest in non-verbal art forms such as modern dance, visual art, and architecture, particularly medieval structures like Fountains Abbey in North Yorkshire, England.

Future Aspirations

Margaret's future plans include cultural travels, particularly exploring the arts and culture of the south of France. She also looks forward to engaging in new projects that bridge cultural and linguistic divides, continuing to inspire and connect with audiences worldwide.

Personal Reflections

Margaret's work is deeply influenced by her belief in the inevitability of change and movement. She views these as fundamental aspects of human experience, often driven by our actions and circumstances. Through her art, she seeks to capture and convey the dynamic nature of life, encouraging her audience to embrace change and the possibilities it brings.

Meet Margaret Wesseling - Theatre writer, performer, and translator.

Not In The Mood.

Zack Davisson is an award-winning translator, writer, and folklorist.

He is the author of The Ultimate Guide to Japanese Yokai, Kaibyo The Supernatural Cats of Japan, Yurei the Japanese Ghost, The Art of Star Wars Visions, and Manga: A Visual Guide. He co-writes Ultimate X-Men with Peach Momoko for Marvel Comics. His works have been translated into multiple languages.

Zack has translated globally renowned manga such as Go Nagai's Devilman and Cutie Honey, Leiji Matsumoto's Space Battleship Yamato and Captain Harlock, and Satoshi Kon's Opus. He translates Shigeru Mizuki's work such as Kitaro and Showa: A History of Japan, and currently translates Gou Tanabe's Lovecraft adaptations and Nadatani Wataru's Cat + Gamer.

Zack lectured on manga, folklore, and translation at Duke University, Annapolis Naval Academy, Università Ca' Foscari Venezia, UCLA, and the University of Washington and contributed to exhibitions at the Museum of International Folkart, Wereldmuseum Rotterdan,  Världskulturmuseerna Stockholm, and the Art Gallery of New South Wales.

Zack lives in Seattle, WA with his wife Miyuki, dog Mochi, cat Shere Khan, and several ghosts.

Born in the beautiful Caribbean island of Guadeloupe, Marc-Harid Montout, better known as DJ Eyedol, is a young, talented, and versatile DJ who is ready to take over the world. With music in his blood, Eyedol grew up with his father, who was a singer and pianist, and started taking piano lessons from an early age.
As he developed a deeper interest in music, Eyedol realized that he had a unique ability to listen to only certain elements of a song, such as beats and different musical elements, which prompted him to pursue a career as a DJ. Inspired by the local artist movement, especially the Wutang Park in his neighborhood, Eyedol's musical influences range from hip hop, reggae to dancehall. His love for these genres shines through in his music, and he has become known for his dynamic and polyvalent sets.
Together with his brother Speyenol, a skilled sound engineer, Eyedol started a music production studio under the record label Awesome Sound Record. The studio focuses on sound recording, producing beats, mixtapes, and video production. 
In addition to this, Eyedol has also won the SXM NRJ DJ AWARDS who made him fly to MONACO & he also Win the NEXT TOP DJ competition on St. Maarten twice, a testament to his skill and dedication to his craft. As he continues to grow and refine his skills, DJ Eyedol is poised to become a household name in the music industry. Keep your eyes and ears open, as this rising star is ready to turn up the place!
