Crossing over from Urban Latin to Boogie, Dub, Modern Soul and beyond, the latest release from producers Jorge Montiel & Juan Laya comes under the name: Don't Stop The Music.
An amazing remake of the mega 80's boogie classic of the Yarbrough & Peoples re-imagined from a Tropicalia angle with a taste of rum with coconut water.

On the vocals this release features none other than the very skilful singers: Chennez Mckenzie and Mikie Blak, both of them long time friends and collaborators of the Imagenes Recordings imprint.

While bossa nova took the world by storm with its smooth melodies and beachside cool, it has also cast a long shadow often obscuring the raw energy, political edge, and cultural depth of Brazil’s broader musical movement: Música Popular Brasileira. This vinyl-only mixset brings together ten lesser-highlighted yet essential tracks that embody the experimental spirit and rich social tapestry of MPB from the late 60s to the 70s.

From the avant-garde wit of Tom Zé to the afro-samba pulses of Gilberto Gil, and the psychedelic riffs of Os Brazoes to the ironic satire of Baiano & Os Novos Caetanos, each track here offers a different lens on what Brazilian music truly sounded like beneath the globalized image of Jobim’s softness.

Whether it’s Nara Leão reinterpreting a bossa classic with new gravitas, or Jorge Ben chanting football and African pride, these records tell stories of cultural resistance, aesthetic rebellion, and the plural voices of a nation.

Spun entirely from original vinyl pressings, this mix isn’t just about nostalgia it’s an excavation. A chance to unearth what was buried under smooth jazz chords and export-ready smiles.

1810 Sound is one of the oldest netlabels, founded in 1997 in New York City.  It was intended as a successor to the East Village indie label Quixotic Records which had folded that year.  The internet was still in its infancy but it was clear that digital distribution was going to be the future (also way cheaper). 

Conveniently, it is also the name given to the mobile sound recording unit used by the bands and individual artists that released music for the label. Over the years it’s included every type of technology we could get our hands on (the cheaper the better).

The result of the last 24 years is a seemingly endless bounty of experimental music and sound recordings from nearly a dozen artists. We carefully select a precious few from the vault for public presentation, given as freely as possible depending upon the ever-changing nature of technology and the internet.  Why do we do this?  A very good question. Is any of this accurate or true?  Another reasonable question.
