Psalm 37 – Wisdom for the Righteous

Theme: Patience and Trust in God’s Justice
Description:
Attributed to David in his old age, Psalm 37 is a wisdom psalm—more like a collection of proverbs than a typical prayer or song. It contrasts the apparent success of the wicked with the ultimate security of the righteous, urging God’s people to trust, wait patiently, and not fret. It assures that evil will fade and the meek will inherit the land.

Hebrew Background:
This psalm reflects a Torah-based worldview where righteousness brings blessing and justice. “Inherit the land” is a recurring phrase rooted in God’s covenant with Israel and the promise of Eretz Yisrael (the Land of Israel). It also includes acrostic elements in Hebrew, where each stanza begins with successive letters of the alphabet—a structure meant to aid memorization and meditation.

Faith in His Faithfulness (Jim Wilson)

As far as trust goes, it's the most valuable element that we can procure. I say that sort of metaphorically, as if you could procure it. But as we know from any relationship, it comes over time. We find that when we interact with others and we see them in various situations, we come to know their nature. It takes time to trust. You may not trust somebody that you meet immediately, because we haven't had time to verify that they're trustworthy. And so when you interact with somebody and they're consistent in the way they show up, or even if they forget to show up or don't show up, they're contrite at the right times, in the right ways, then we start to develop trust.

It's also important that we may consider that we may act in such a way that Kṛṣṇa can trust us. Any relationship is two-way. This relationship that we have with Kṛṣṇa is personal; it's not mechanical. And if we remember that Kṛṣṇa is our ever well-wisher and we work to trust Him, then we'll notice His reciprocation. As in any relationship, by noticing the reciprocation, as Prabhupāda indicated in the purport by quoting from Bhagavad-gītā 10.11, which is:

teṣāṁ evānukampārtham aham ajñāna-jaṁ tamaḥ
nāśayāmy ātma-bhāva-stho jñāna-dīpena bhāsvatā

That when one sincerely tries to reach Kṛṣṇa, then, as Prabhupāda wrote in the purport here, Kṛṣṇa flips on a light. In the Gītā, it's a lamp, the kind that you might light with a mantra, maybe. And then it's a lamp, but Prabhupāda says, 'switch on the light,' and light is self-evident. It's not that you have to intellectualize light. When the sun comes up, the birds know it. The birds know it first, apparently, because they start singing before it comes up.

I noticed that: I was camping once, and in the deep, dark forest, all by myself, I pitched a tent, and I was living out there for a couple days, and I just noticed that the birds were clamorous, and I thought, 'Well, time to get up.' So I looked out. It's pitch black. How did they know the sun was coming up? And how do we know when the sun has come up? It's self-evident. And when we act in such a way that Kṛṣṇa can trust us and He begins to shine light in our heart, so we can see more than we saw before, then there's an inkling of a relationship. I think that's a reciprocation. We may verify that, but as time moves on, as in any relationship, we become more and more certain, and that certainty leads to this implicit trust that we have in Kṛṣṇa, and it's always exhilarating, because...

Hi, I’m William J. Evans, and I create music with one purpose: to glorify God and bring His Word to life. I compose Scripture-based songs across a wide range of themes—from Psalms and the teachings of Jesus to the Ten Commandments and the days of creation. Whether the music leans into cinematic soundscapes, traditional Middle Eastern textures, or a more rock-driven approach, it’s all designed to draw attention to the beauty and truth of God’s Word.

I’ve been surrounded by music since I was young—singing in choirs at age 8, learning piano at 10, and guitar at 15. I’ve played in bands, served as a backup guitarist in the studio, and now use that background to create original music that points listeners to Christ.

I also use AI as part of my creative toolbox. I believe it’s like the introduction of MIDI decades ago—controversial at first, but ultimately just a new way to explore artistic ideas. I see AI as a tool, not a replacement. It allows me to bring these Bible-centered projects to life in unique and meaningful ways.
