Since his feast day is on 06.12. I wanted to make a little edit about him. St. Nicholas of Myra was a Christian bishop known for his generosity, miracles, and devotion to the poor. He is the patron saint of children, sailors, and the marginalized.

On the Sunday this sermon was preached the congregation was celebrating Advent 2 (the coming of John the Baptist) and the Feast Day of Nicholas of Myra. The sermon explores the lives of these two very different men and what they might have in common that we might learn from.

To clarify: 
It is now known that John the Baptist did not eat actual "locusts" but rather "carob root" ("locust" was the nickname given "carob root" by Aramaic natives of the time). 
Also, some people thought I said "caribou," which are obviously not native to the Negev desert in Israel. 
Carob is a desert plant, the root of which, when ground up and steeped in hot water tasted somewhat like chocolate.

Wagner holds an MDiv from Concordia Theological Seminary in Fort Wayne, Indiana. An ordained pastor of The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod, he hails from Conroe, Texas.
