TRUE HOUSE STORIES W/ TYREE COOPER #034 - PART 1
Tyree Cooper the awesome super dupa producer, grew up in Chicago, starting out as a top Basketball Player but left to focus on music producing and Djing. Tyree began working with Mike Dunn but after a disagreement they initially parted ways but reunited at an event called Earthquake for freestyle battles which attracted over 500 people to the shows, packing out the club and the overspill of revelers took to partying on the streets outside. In the years of 1984 till 1986 these were Tyree’s most prominent production years. Chicago House music was his vibe and Tyree became a legend on the drum machine Roland TR-808. Tyree was turning out 4 tracks per night whilst continuing to work during the day, he worked 12 hours per night in the studio. Tyree was signed to DJ International Records and they would pay him $50 per drum beats and was even told by Larry Sherman of Trax Records that his music sucked! All of the tracks he produced were credited to Rocky Jones and all of his tracks according to management were not selling. Little did Tyree know that he had produced some huge hits but was never truly informed. Luckily for Tyree his hit record  contracts were just 2 years long so to this day, he actually owns most of his music.

At just over 3 hours, this mix is the longest mix I’ve ever recorded. You’ll find many brand new tracks like &ME’s brilliant “Confusion” as well as Burning Man Classics like “Time” by the Pachanga Boys and The Scumfrog’s brilliant remix of Once In A Life Time by Art of Noise.  There’s plenty of remakes and remixes including of tracks by Röyksopp, Everything But The Girl, Sade, Kate Bush, Chris Isaak, Radiohead, The Doors, Teddy Pendergrass,  and Tyree Cooper. There’s also the TikTok hit “Love Tonight”. Lenny Fontana has DJed all over the world throughout his career. He was the First American DJ to play at the world famous ‘Pacha’ - (Ibiza). Lenny has played at iconic venues such as Ministry Of Sound - (London), ‘Studio 54’ - (New York City),  ‘Hacienda’ - (Manchester), ‘La Queen’ - (Paris) and he also DJ'ed for the closing party at  ‘The Chevron’ - (Melbourne).

BACKGROUND
Paolo is a DJ of mixed Italian and Australian descent. He grew up in London where he discovered DJ-ing in his early teens just as house and techno sounds from Chicago and Detroit were exploding on the club scene in the late 1980s. He started DJ-ing with school friend Ben Bodie who went on to become the Head of Ministry of Sound's publishing division. "Our early forays were pretty humbling, we borrowed an old sound mixer from school and each had a turntable and would spend many a weekend hunting vinyl around London's underground record stores and practicing our skills on the decks". After early gigs around London's Chelsea and the West End, Paolo became a permanent fixture at the legendary White Party beach parties at Bagno Pennone Beach Resort in Forte Dei Marmi in Italy.  

THE WHITE PARTY (SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA 2002-2011)
In 2002 after 6 months of travelling through South East Asia, Paolo settled in Sydney where together with Dan Mor and Michelle Latoza, set up The White Party in Sydney. The White Party (Sydney) grew from a small private party amongst friends at an apartment in Rose Bay to one of the largest and most sought after word-of-mouth events in Sydney. Paolo co-organised the event which took place 3 to 4 times a year and catered to up to 3,000 guests. The White Party had a number of exclusives such as being given the opening night for the launch of Justin Hemme's Ivy precinct. Other venues included Tank, Luna Park, and The Argyle. Paolo was the resident DJ at The White Party which hosted a number of international DJs such as Carl Kennedy (GBH, New York) and Jonathan Ulysses (Space, Ibiza). Local Australian DJs, Corin Hansford and Bill Fragos soon also became permanent fixtures at The White Party (Sydney). The ethos of The White Party was all about creating an inspirational journey of sound and light the moment you stepped through the door - a creative experience more akin to a night of hedonism in Ibiza than just another night on the local club circuit. DJs were chosen who could best capture the most progressive and avant guard sounds in dance music whilst still being able to capture a full-on party atmosphere. DJ Bill Fragos was perfectly placed in this respect - he had set up SoulGood, Australia’s first radio show exclusively focused on House Music. He regularly hosted a Who’s Who of the biggest global DJs on his radio show from established giants like Erick Morillo, Roger Sanchez, Sandy Rivera as well as more underground names like George Morel, Pirupa, Chus & Ceballos, Nice7, Tom Stephan (Superchumbo) and Hot Since 82 (Daley Padley) amongst others. 

TODAY
Today Paolo is based in Zurich (Switzerland) and is available to DJ for occasional private events.

INFLUENCES
Key influences: Dave Dorrel & CJ Mackintosh in the late 80s, Jeremy Healey in the 90s, DJ Sneak, Roger Sanchez, Erick Morillo and Wayne G in the early 2000s. Today, I am most inspired by Black Coffee, Lee Burridge, Guy Gerber, Damian Lazarus, Jody Wisternoff, and Yotto.

MY DJ MIX SERIES
Beats for Distant Lands is my mix series where you can see the influence of Black Coffee, Lee Burridge, and Damian Lazarus - with a strong focus on Afro, Tech and Latin house. The Dreamland Series reflects my interest in the progressive yet organic deep house sounds of the AnjunaDeep label. My Deep & Soulful mix series is as the name suggests more of a Soulful House sound but with a deep and edgy vibe. My Souled Out Mix Series is a more traditional funky and soulful house sound with occasional disco house elements. My Stepping Back In Time Mix Series is more of a retro and downtempo flavour. Finally, you’ll also find all the mixes played at the various White Party events in Sydney from 2002 to 2011. Enjoy! :o)

Born and bred Londoner Tom Frankel is emerging as one of the nu breed of extra talented dance producers breaking out onto the scene. 

Over the last few years he has honed his trade by playing at legendary clubs such as The Egg, where he is a regular feature, plus many gigs at huge London clubs such as Studio 338, The Cause, Lightbox, Fabric in the UK. While also doing many seasons in Ibiza playing at Sankeys, Privilege, Viva, Zoo project, Hypercolour, and underground haven Plan Be.


Tom has played alongside industry greats such as Bushwacka!, Steve Lawler, Subb-An, Dubfire, Nina Kraviz, Julian Perez, Darius Syrossian, Bicep and Move D, but it is now that Tom himself is starting to take the limelight. 

His productions are fresh, forward thinking, and always with the dance floor in mind, creating his own unique fusion of House music where he has releases and remixes on labels such as Burnski's label Constant Sound and iO (Mulen) imprint OLDiViBES and more recently with his and Dayne Harper own imprint Council Work receiving a lot of attention, with support from Ben UFO, Call Super and Loco Dice amongst others, plus no1 chart positions on Beatport and Deejay.de for the first two releases. 

Tom has earned the admiration of his peers and rightly so, he’s a chap with a lively, transfixing personality and his sets are spirited and distinct, marrying a rich medley of current house, garage and minimal music with sounds from a bygone era. His rapid climb to success is attributable to his hard work and endearing character, which combined with his expert musical knowledge make him a serious one to watch in the future.
