For this month’s theme of ADOLESCENT POWER FANTASY we’re spending our Mondays looking at the film roots of today’s ADOLESCENT POWER FANTASY and the character of Zorro is a fine place to start. Dual identities, protector of everyday citizens, son of wealth. Hey, Zorro sounds like he might be kind of influential to that one guy in Gotham City with the ears. The sword on sword action goes pleasantly hard in Rouban Mamoulian’s 1940 adventure film “The Mark of Zorro” starring the super hunk Tyrone Power and the sneering swag of Basil Rathbone. Seriously, this movie might have the best sword fight we’ve ever seen. Seek it out and then seek out this discussion.

He’ll use up, sleep with and toss aside all those in his path to get what he wants. One day he meets his match and the cries of the chicken loving Geek beckon him. Maybe pretending he could raise the dead was a bit much. We’re talking about the strange and unique 1947 noir from the prolific screenwriter and director Edmund Goulding called “NIGHTMARE ALLEY” starring Tyrone Power, Joan Blondell, Coleen Gray, Helen Walker and more. Respected barrister Sir Wilfred Robarts is recovering from a near-fatal heart attack when the case of a lifetime comes through the door. Leonard Vole has been accused of murdering a wealthy old lady, and suspicion is only increased when he's named as the largest beneficiary of her will. Vole's only alibi is his wife Christine, a German immigrant who swears that her husband must be innocent. Of course, a jury is unlikely to accept the testimony of a loving spouse. Sir Wilfred finds himself drawn into a tangled web of lies and deceit that lead to a truly shocking outcome.

At time of recording, it was ranked 66th on the list of the best movies of all time on the Internet Movie Database.
