Flowey greets Elijah with a warm smile, just like before… until, in a blink, his expression shifts.

004. UNDERTALE Raps of MT. Ebott DEMO - Flourish

Burnt Orange Bluegrass has been around since 2014. But when Jude Salazar found it in 2023, the club was on the brink of death.

Jude might be the club’s president now, but at the time, a man named Travis ran the club. While Travis had a deep love for bluegrass music, he struggled with recruitment. That’s where Jude came in.

He noticed the club’s dwindling numbers and asked Travis if he could help with advertising. Travis said he could throw some posters up, if he’d like.

Jude:
I threw them up anywhere that I thought people would see. Some conventional, some non, and. I definitely got in trouble for it a few times, but eventually people started showing up

The traditional genre drew them in. It blurs together country, jazz, and blues to tell distinctly American stories. When Jude hosted a jam session in his backyard, he realized the club had come alive again.

Jude:
 I just looked around and I, I took in the sound. It sounded so full, it didn't sound like anything was missing. And something that can lead to like an emptiness in a sound is a lack of love. When I just stopped and I listened to that song, I heard nothing but love.

[Introduce Gabby’s fiddle playing]

That’s Gabby Alvarado on the fiddle. She’s vice-president, and has been playing the violin since forever. She helps run the club meetings, which are basically just jam sessions where the group plays from a list of bluegrass songs. When she joined the club, she was one of the youngest members, and the only woman.

Gabby:
 In the beginning I really just stayed because I loved the music. But over time as it changed, I got to be a part of a really, really welcoming community where I got to see it grow and I got to help it grow to the point where literally anybody with any expertise. Any instrument could come in and just feel like loved and welcomed, and I think this group just kind of accepts you as you are and embraces that. 

When you sit in on a jam session, it’s hard not to let the beauty overtake you. The acoustic instruments meld together with the sounds of nature. The sun sets, casting golden light on a group of people singing and playing together.

That’s longtime member Maddox Michener going solo on the banjo. When he first came to UT, he felt out of place. 

Maddox:
 the people in this club showed me, uh, the good parts of Austin. They showed me the good parts of ut. Um. Uh, like everyone in the club last year felt like bigger siblings, you know, like, uh, I, I would call so many people in this club, like my, my brothers and sisters.

You can really tell how much everyone loves each other after talking to them for only a moment. They’re friends, and it’s really no wonder why. Bluegrass is a genre that encourages you to connect to the people before you, to the people around you.

When I asked the members of the club what their favorite song to play was, most named “Will the Circle Remain Unbroken”. They end every jam session with it. In Gabby’s words,

Gabby:
The whole essence of it is,  even though you're physically not here, we're all connected somehow. And so I like to think that no matter where any of us end up in the next week or in the next 10 years, we're all gonna think back on these memories very fondly. I mean these people are my family and no matter where life takes us, I'm always gonna think of this fondly.

Oh me oh my, look at that! It's a TOTALLY not ENTIRELY Undertale content!!!!!!!.... yeah i started playing Forsaken a lot recently and the osts had me stunned. Also before any of you ask "OH BUT WHY DID YOU MADE A COVER/REMIX OF IDIFY AND NOT PLAYING GOD? THE SONG WAS SCRAPPED, THE NEW ONE IS WAY BETTER!!!!" ...Because i didn't knew before i finished both songs LOL- But yeah this is the first step for me to make new and improved content for y'all, hope it was worth the wait. Also, if any of you guys ask "Will you make a Playing God cover anytime soon?", my response is: Absolutely. Just, not now.
