Starting with the sound of the sea gently lapping the shore this is a gentle but building tune simulating the wonderful sound of the Uilleann pipes.  These pipes have always been one of my favourite instruments because of the wonderful mood and ambience they can create.  Added to this is a classical accompaniment which hopefully will sound as dreamy in your mind as it does in mine.

Highland Dreams

Hi!! Here's my latest recording, a very old tune written many years ago by Rory Dall O'Cahan, he may have been an Irish harper and composer.  He is said to have been born circa 1580 in County Antrim and to have died circa 1653 at Eglinton Castle.
Unlike the vast number of travelling musicians, Ó Catháin was a gentleman by birth and he traveled into Scotland attended by the retinue of a rich gentle man.

Der Titel «Fara I Viking» ist eine altnordische Redewendung und bedeutet übersetzt so viel wie «auf Wikingerfahrt gehen». Musikalisch geht es auf einen Raubzug auf der europäischen Nordsee. Dementsprechend ist die Komposition von actionreichen und schnellen Passagen geprägt. Nordische und mittelalterliche Instrumente sind zahlreich vertreten. Darunter Drehleiern, Gamben, Uilleann Pipes, Lauten und viele mehr. Ein grosses Orchester mit Chor rundet das Ganze ab und verleiht der Musik eine epische Grösse.

The title “Fara I Viking” is an old Norse phrase and translates as “to go on a Viking raid”. Musically speaking, the piece takes you on a raid on the European North Sea. Accordingly, the composition is characterised by action-packed and fast passages. Nordic and medieval instruments are represented in large numbers. These include hurdy-gurdies, viola da gambas, uilleann pipes, lutes and many more. A large orchestra and choir round off the piece, giving the music an epic grandeur.

2024 Remix and Remaster version to bring it up to the standard of the later album tracks for full album release in 2025.

This track also need a bit of a rewrite too as some elements of the original just didn't work. A change of VST instrumentation including the use of Dicky Degan's Uilleann Pipes and some work on understanding pipe ornaments has brought it up to a standard I am now happy with.

An Irish-tinged tune about the Lindisfarne Gospels to reflect the Irish foundations of the community despite the later Romanisation of the Celtic church.

The track title comes from me thinking about it being a beacon of civilisation, a rallying point, during the Early Middle Ages whilst a far chunk of the UK was under Viking rule and Christianity had again been pushed to the margins of the UK.

Background
The Lindisfarne Gospels is an illuminated manuscript gospel book probably produced around the years 715-720 in the monastery at Lindisfarne, off the coast of Northumberland, which is now in the British Library in London. The manuscript is one of the finest works in the unique style of Hiberno-Saxon or Insular art, combining Mediterranean, Anglo-Saxon and Celtic elements.

The Lindisfarne Gospels are presumed to be the work of a monk named Eadfrith, who became Bishop of Lindisfarne in 698 and died in 721 AD.

Thinking Irish music lead to the inclusion of harp, bodhrán, uilleann pipes and a bit of whistle, all over a bed of strings and choir. The Foley sound of somebody writing with a quill pen set the scene and once I had the basic melody I was away. I took advice from a harpist on how they play chords and read up on Uilleann pipe drones and playing ornamentation too.

Creating music with folk spirit and classical intentions, Timmy is dedicated to learning new ways to use the old.  Being the son of a History Professor, Timmy developed a deep appreciation for the past. My name is Ronny Hubschmid. In my spare time I regularly compose music in the fields of soundtrack, epic, fantasy and many other genres. The music is mainly produced on the computer with a virtual orchestra.

Established in 1992, the Ward Irish Music Archives houses the largest public collection of Irish music in America. It is named after John J. Ward Jr., father of Irish Fest founder Ed Ward. The archive currently consists of more than 40,000 Irish music recordings and pieces of memorabilia ranging from rare 78 rpm's, LP's and sheet music to song books, instruments, and concert memorabilia. Many of the archives items are extremely difficult to find today, and our diverse collections focus on subjects such as Irish traditional music, Irish folk songs, Scottish music, and Irish contributions to American popular music.

After spending many of my early years hoping to break into the music world the dream just didn't happen for me but I did have some great times, a lot of fun and met some great people along the way and a few good songs did come out of it!  Alas those old songs do now sound like old songs that I might revisit and re record one day.  However, now retired with time on my hands I'm once again getting back into the composing and recording world, although it is a very different world today.  Where did all the reel to reels and cassette tapes go?

Hello, I'm Kermakastikeritari, or Kermis for short. I am a hobbyist musician from Finland, mainly making music for fun and my own enjoyment.

Firage is a "fictional video game music" project that I founded in 2005. Firage doesn't really have a set genre, but I'm highly influenced by other video game musicians, rock/metal music and various kinds of electronic music.

I'm more interested in composing, arranging and mixing music on a computer rather than actually playing physical instruments, but I'm capable of performing some simple stuff on keyboard and guitar.

I mainly use OpenMPT, FamiTracker, FL Studio and Audacity to create my music.

Most of my music is released under the Creative Commons Attribution license, so feel free to use my music either as it is or by expanding on it. And if you do, please send me a link to your game/video/remix/other creation, I'm curious.
