Instrumental themes such as the energized "Signify" and its uninhibited guitars, or the atmospheric Phase 2 of"Waiting" with Colin Edwin's persistent bass line and Chris Maitland's tribal-like percussion supporting Wilson's guitardalliances, or the hypnotic trance of "Idiot Prayer", intertwine with Wilson's anguished voice in the powerful "The Sleepof No Dreaming" in one of the best moments of the album, the melancholic Phase 1 of "Waiting", the industrial airs of"Sever" and the narcotic and melodious "Every Home Is Wired" with Richard Barbieri and his mysterious and intriguingtouch on the keyboards, all combined to conceive a work of great sonic amplitude, and that has a great ending withthe growing "Dark Matter" and the excellent guitar solo again in the hands of Wilson towards the last part of the song.While all the tracks on "Signify" are credited to the group, it seems obvious that the major compositional weight is heldby Wilson, on an album that again marks the spacey vein that by then was the band's hallmark.Very good.3.5 stars

Hence, right from the start of the album, the Pinkfloydian influences are present in the huge suite that bears thename of the album, "The Sky Moves Sideways", a piece separated into two parts: Phase 1, a hypnotic journeywithout end, with Wilson's vocals in Gilmour mode, interrupted by the intensity of Richard Barbieri's haunting,lingering electronic instrumentation, Chris Maitland's serene percussion and a distorted guitar solo in thebackground, to its quiet conclusion of acoustic guitars tucked under a blanket of keyboards; and, preceded by thedeserted delay guitar solo of the brief "Prepare Yourself" and the experimental and atmospheric "Moonloop",Phase 2 maintains the permanent sensation of a ship on an astral voyage, and extends into a powerfuldevelopment that momentarily becomes calm, before giving way to a long, spacey guitar solo, in one of thealbum's high points, and concluding the track with Colin Edwin Edwin's low bass lulled by the watery sounds of apsychedelic sea.
