I finally did the mix I was planning a few weeks ago with the remastered Universal Project tunes plus also a few more remasters that Raiden (re)released in the meantime. So in this show it's a digital mix, but of classic tunes! Added a bunch of others that I felt fit the theme, can't play lots of UP without any VC, for example!

In this edition I was playing tunes digitally, playing a bit of Renegade Hardware vibes with remastered tunes from @raiden and @universalproject as well as some new collabs and remixes of the latter, plus some recently released remixes of some RH classics, and some RH originals I had digitally. An interesting mix of old and new, taking you back and forth between 2000 and 2024! I certainly enjoyed it, and I hope you did or will as well.

To this day Mortlock & Universal Project's 'Broken Silence' album still stands as a favourite LP for many. Previously unavailable in a digital format, Dispatch Recordings is proud to present a new twist on an all-time classic drum & bass album including new bonus material. Each track sounds superb, thanks to the glossy, modernised 2024 mastering work from Haden at Height Mastering.
 
In the early 2000s Mortlock was part of Vicious Circle and dropped one of their first demos through the door of Universal Project's flat. By surprise, this led to their first release on Renegade Hardware - a remix of the Universal Project track 'Jackhammer'. This connection would continue to be creative with Mortlock eventually moving into that same flat with Universal Project, where the legendary 'Rollers Convention' would form the first track from this album. Aiming to encapsulate the full range of styles that had inspired them during those furtive years, the album reflects their diverse influences with nods to everything from high melodics to tearout filth. All whilst still maintaining the essence of their sounds - which is to always keep it rolling.

Originally released in 2010, this anthem has torn down clubs since being teased and unleashed to the world. A firm favourite in the Skankandbass camp, this tune is the ultimate DJ tool and definition of a roller.

For this digital show I wanted to play a couple more newer Critical bits that I had bought but didn't get to play in my last digital show, and besides that I wanted to focus on more harder rollers with the new remasters of the Broken Silence LP from Mortlock (Vicious Circle) and Universal Project. The first half hour goes a bit more into a Critical direction but then the rest goes into a relentless flow - I was really enjoying the mix! Unfortunately there's a glitch around 65:30 as the stream dropped and I had to glue the mix from the recording, and one tune in between went missing except that you can hear it starting to get mixed into Squadron.

Universal Project established in 2000 as a quartet, with their distinctive fusion of Bboy breaks, techno elements, dubwise bass and futuristic twists quickly gaining popularity on dancefloors worldwide. 

With early classics such as 'The Craft' and 'Haunted Dreams' gaining heavy support, renowned Drum & Bass labels soon took notice, with releases following on the likes of Renegade Hardware, True Playaz, Cylon and Virus, who released their their legendary techno-infused track 'Vessel'. 

Their in house label Universal Project Recordings was created to promote their unique sound and collaborate with producers globally, with standout tracks such as 'Glock', 'Warboyz', 'Bleach' and 'Outrun' became fan favorites.

Now consisting of two founding members, with a musical background dating back to 1993, the pair have DJ'ed everything from Hardcore to Jungle, gaining a strong following on London's Pirate Radio stations. Touching down on stages and clubs across Europe, the US and beyond, the dynamic duo have solidified their reputation with performances alongside heavyweights such as Andy C, Friction, Grooverider, Chase & Status, Loxy, Bad Company and many more. 

Moving to the present day, Universal Project continue to bring their inimitable sound to the masses, with more recent releases on labels such as Sofa Sound Bristol, Innerground and Dispatch. In 2024, the release of the full Univesal Project Back Catalogue began, in a three part series featuring many remastered remastered.
