Attempting to rescue “Leonore,” who had lost her balance trying to recover her blanket, he himself also fell into the path of the mad rush of stampeding cattle.  He managed  to distract the cattle, and instructed Leonore to “Lie still” – but he succumbed to their thundering hooves and horns when they charged over him.  This song is number 14 in my book about my father and his songs aptly titled “A Cowboy and His Songs.”
