This research article investigates the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on individuals in the Republic of Ireland using a novel approach.  Researchers employed social virtual reality (VR) and digital storytelling, having participants reconstruct significant pandemic-related locations in 3D to explore their experiences.  Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis (IPA) was used to analyze interview data gathered within these virtual environments, revealing key themes related to life experiences, health, life events, environment, technology, and employment. The study highlights VR's potential as a transformative tool for social science research, enabling a deeper understanding of complex human experiences during crises.  The findings contribute to a richer understanding of the pandemic's multifaceted effects and the role of technology in shaping individual responses.

Trudno o bardziej niezwykłe spotkanie przeszłości z przyszłością, sztuki z technologią, tradycyjnej sceny teatralnej z najnowszymi rozwiązaniami z obszaru VR (Virtual Reality) i AR (Augmented Reality). Jedno jest pewne – teatr wkroczył w nową erę. Zaledwie kilka miesięcy temu (14. czerwca 2024 r.) we Florencji odbyła się światowa premiera eksperymentalnej opery hybrydowej „Orfeo & Lwanda Hybrid Opera”, opowiadającej historię XVIII-wiecznego afrykańskiego wojownika Lwandy Magere i Orfeusza. Spektakl realizowany był równolegle na fizycznej scenie oraz na platformie spatial.io w metawersum VR Academia Electronica. Kostiumy, zarówno te materialne jak i wirtualne, zaprojektowała dr Anna Syczewska – interdyscyplinarna artystka, która prowadzi zajęcia na Uniwersytecie SWPS w Krakowie. W procesie projektowym wykorzystuje sztuczną inteligencję.

Jakie wnioski płyną z tego eksperymentu? Czy wirtualna rzeczywistość stanie faktycznie idealną przestrzenią dla sztuki współczesnej, skoro możliwości VR wydają się nieograniczone? Czy projektowanie wirtualnych kostiumów ma sens i do kogo jest adresowane? Jak zmieni się rola projektanta w niedalekiej przyszłości?
O swoich doświadczeniach opowiedziała artystka i projektantka dr Anna Syczewska w rozmowie z naukowczynią i projektantką innowacji Agatą Bisping.
